Nominations for seven of this weekend’s nine races at Flemington were taken on Monday morning, including the Group 2 Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m), which has attracted 17 two-year-olds.
Both David Hayes & Tom Dabernig and Ciaron Maher could deliver dual-pronged attacks on the race after nominating two of their stables’ top juveniles.
Hayes & Dabernig continue their dominance of the Melbourne autumn racing carnival with Air Apparent and Lake Jackson.
Air Apparent has yet to win a race from her four career starts but did enjoy runner-up finishes in her two runs back in January. The filly earned her place in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) field after running fourth in the Prelude two weeks earlier, however she was inconvenienced near 600 metres and lost ground, subsequently finishing five lengths off winner Pride Of Dubai in sixth place.
Lake Jackson finished third in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes (1000m) back in October but has run unplaced in his two starts this campaign.
Maher’s two-year-old filly Jameka finished third in the Inglis Premier (1000m) on February 7, just one and three-quarter lengths behind winner Stoker before running fourth in the Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m) on February 21. Meanwhile his two-year-old colt Well Sighted won a 2YO Handicap over 1205m at Sandown on February 8.
Tony McEvoy has nominated two-year-old Manhattan Blues for the 2015 Sires’ Produce Stakes. The gelding won his maiden on debut at Morphettville on January 10 and beat Stoker to second place in the Inglis Premier. He finished fourth in the Blue Diamond Stakes on February 28, missing out on a minor placing by just one length.
Peter Moody’s Pasadena Girl could get her second start in the Sires’ Produce Stakes after winning the Talindert Stakes on debut three weeks ago.
John O’Shea will saddle just one Godolphin juvenile in Saturday’s race – Sampeah. The colt won his maiden on debut back in November after which he was spelled for just under three months. He was third in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) on February 14 but couldn’t figure in the main event two weeks later, finishing midfield in eighth place.
Other nominated juvenile horses include Matthew Ellerton & Simon Zahra’s Iceflow and last start winner Queen Of Wands for Clarry Conners.
