This year’s edition of the three-year-olds’ set weights $175,000 Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) attracted 20 nominations including Redoute’s Choice colt Hampton Court.

At his peak winning the Spring Champion over 2000m at Randwick last October, he has had two disappointing runs since including a first-up ninth to subsequent Randwick Guineas winner Hallowed Crown in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) on February 21.

He is looking to improve when up over a little extra distance on Saturday heading towards a run $1.5 million Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) at Randwick on April 12.

Waterhouse has a total of three Phar Lap Stakes entries this year also nominating for Adrift and Supara.

Winner of the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m), Zabeel filly Adrift is looking to return to form after a seventh to Light Fingers runner-up First Seal who turned the tables in the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) on February 28.

Supara meanwhile is another filly taking on the boys if accepted, the Domesday grey coming off a Surround Stakes second.

With four Phar Lap Stakes entries is Sydney’s leading horseman Chris Waller whose charge features Group 1 Thousand Guineas winner Amicus, also nominated for the $600,000 Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) on the same program.

Street cry filly Winx, running to First Seal in last October’s Flight Stakes, is Waller’s other dual Coolmore Classic – Phar Lap Stakes nominee.

His contingent for the latter is then rounded out by High Chaparral filly Ballet Suite who has won two of her four starts in non-black type company to date and Wine Tales who ran sixth in the Surround last start.

Surround Stakes third placegetter Slightly Sweet meanwhile is one of the headline Phar Lap Stakes chances, the Jason Coyle-trained daughter of Charge Forward having run third also in the Light Fingers Stakes first-up.

Some of the other nice types nominated for the Phar Lap Stakes this year include John O’Shea’s Wakeful Stakes runner-up Abduction, the Gerald Ryan-trained Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Peggy Jean and Magic Millions 3YO Guineas runner-up Testashadow who was scratched from last weekend’s Australian Guineas due to a wide barrier.

Check out the full Phar Lap Stakes 2015 nominations below, the final field and barrier draw due for release on Wednesday.
