Yasutoshi Ikee’s Japanese raider World Ace is one of the headline first acceptances taken for the Doncaster Mile 2015 on Monday for the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival major next month.

First declarations for the eight Group 1 races making up The Championships over two Saturdays in April closed today, including those for the $3 million Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m).

Last month the Doncaster Mile nominations featured a bumper 139 entries.

There are now 80 milers left heading towards the April 4 classic, including Deep Impact stallion World Ace.

One of the early favourites in the Doncaster Mile betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au, the six-year-old was last seen running a brave fourth to Able Friend in the Group 1 Hong Kong Mile (1600m) at Sha Tin in mid-December.

He is set to make his down under debut on March 21 at Rosehill Gardens in the $1 million Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) with jockey Nick Hall booked for the ride.

Noriyuki Hori’s seven-year-old son of Deep Impact, Real Impact is the other Japanese raider set to kick things off in the George Ryder on Golden Slipper Day on way to the Doncaster Mile.

Narrow Doncaster Mile favourite however is the John Thompson-trained filly First Seal who runs in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) against the older mares this weekend.

Winner of the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) during the spring, the three-year-old daughter of Fastnet Rock was last seen winning the Surround Stakes and has an eye on a bit Doncaster Grand Final to finish off her autumn.

She is looking to be the first of her age to win the Doncaster Mile since Sacred Falls (2013) for his first two years ago, but no filly has been successful since the great Sunline (2002).

The other three most exciting three-year-olds looking for a Doncaster Mile win this autumn are the James & Bart Cummings-trained Randwick Guineas winner from last weekend Hallowed Crown, and the horses that ran second and third respectively behind him in the showdown Sweynesse for Godolphin and Peter & Paul Snowden’s Caulfield Guineas winner Shooting To Win.

Chris Waller meanwhile has won four editions of the Doncaster Mile since 2008 including the past two on the trot with Sacred Falls.

This year his contingent is led by Cox Plate winner Adelaide, the imported Galileo four-year-old yet to run in the autumn for Waller.

Waller’s other major players as he shoots for his third Doncaster on the trot are Epsom Handicap winner He’s Your Man, Australian Guineas fourth placed colt Kermadec and the dual defending champ Sacred Falls.

Other big name Doncaster Mile first acceptors include Gai Waterhouse’s Canterbury Stakes winning mare from last weekend Cosmic Endeavour, Godolphin import It’s Somewhat who earned a 1kg Doncaster Mile penalty for his winning debut down under in the Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) last month, super sprinter Chautauqua who is more likely to run in the $2.5 million Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) on the same day, his Chipping Norton Stakes winning stablemate Contributer, the Peter Moody-trained CF Orr Stakes champ Dissident and Kris Lees’ Caulfield Cup third placed mare Lucia Valentina.

The Doncaster Mile 2015 final declarations close at 9am (AEDT) on Tuesday March 31 so stay tuned.
