Epona Stakes to Figure for Aspiration Quality Winner Adorabeel

Classy mare Adorabeel has this afternoon made a successful transition to black type racing at Royal Randwick; producing a strong kick in the final straight to take out the Group 3 Aspiration Quality (1600m).

Jumping from the gates well, Adorabeel settled in prime position on the heels of the Aspiration Quality’s early leaders Solicit, Define and Lorna May who set a reasonable tempo away from the gates and approaching the bend.

Dropping back into the pack upon arriving on the final straight, young jockey Sam Clipperton found a clear racing line through the middle of the pack and allowed the five-year-old to charge forward; hitting the line a head in the clear of fellow outsider Entertains; Intimate Moment boxing on for third.

Trainer Joe Pride was pleased with Adorabeel’s maiden black type success in the Aspiration Quality and revealed the Group 3 Epona Stakes (1900m) in a fortnight will figure as her next competitive point of call.

“I left her one run too many at the 1500m but it was all about buying time to get here today,” Pride said.

“Terrific run today – really tough, really brave so I think Sacred Choice won this race a few years ago and she was a similar age and kept improving. This mare’s got a lot of improvement in her, maybe not this prep but in the next couple of preps.

“She’s a good, tough mare and has been looking for this distance, so I’d love to run her in the 1900m Epona in a couple of weeks’ time at Rosehill.

“I think the upside to her is in 6 months or 12 months’ time.”

Clipperton performed particularly well aboard Adorabeel for success in the 2015 Aspiration Quality and was quick to praise the ability of the daughter of Savabeel immediately after dismounting.

“It was a tough win,” Clipperton said.

“I had a lovely run in the race, came along at a genuine tempo and just peeled her out at the 600m – just wanted to make sure I was within striking distance.

“When they were coming at her left, right and centre she really pinned the ears and won well.

“Joe’s done a great job with this mare; she can get a little bit hot sometimes but he’s really worked around that and she’ll run the mile right out.”
