2015 William Reid Option for Bob Hoystead Winner Chloe In Paris

Caulfield’s Ciaron Maher has named the William Reid Stakes 2015 as a possible Group 1 autumn aim for his improving young sprinter Chloe In Paris who handled her test in the Bob Hoystead Handicap at Flemington on Australian Guineas Day.

The 76-rated Exceed And Excel mare took on some triple-figure rated big guns in this year’s $120,000 Listed Bob Hoystead Handicap (1000m) and did away with them in a gutsy effort that will see her rating skyrocket.

“She was brilliant at the gates,” winning hoop Williams said after the victory.

“Ciaron Maher was very confident about this horse.

“She delivered.

“It was a step up…she was a high quality filly and now she’s turned into a stakes winning mare.”

She was flying out of the barriers with Craig Williams, who celebrated a winning hat-trick on the day with the victory, letting her roll along up front with the likes of Turquoise King, Vatican and Let’s Rock’N’Roll.

The eventual winner was sitting three off the rail and leading with 400m left to travel, kicking away well when the challengers moved into the clear in the closing stages.

She travelled well all race and won in very quick time, giving the kick when asked in a performance there was lots to like about including her explosive late burst.

Relaxing beautifully as the pacesetter, the four-year-old came off back-to-back February wins over the same distance including down the Flemington track on February 21.

In better company for the Bob Hoystead, Chloe In Paris ($4.40) didn’t crumble under the pressure and on the line had a tidy one and a quarter lengths to spare over the Peter Moody-trained mare Peron ($8) who came back in terrific order not having raced since the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival last year.

“She’s three from three this preparation and she keeps raising the bar,” Williams said.

Finishing off the trifecta in third was then the top-rated runner in the race, Peron’s super honest stablemate Flamberge ($4.80) who was brave with the hefty 60kg on his back today second-up after a second to Chautauqua in the Group 2 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) on February 14.

Options both in Melbourne and Sydney this autumn have opened up with the black-type win for Chloe In Paris who could race under the lights at Moonee Valley on Friday March 27 in the $400,000 Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m).

The up-and-comer is also in the nominations for the lucrative $2.5 million Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on April 4 on Day 1 of Sydney’s The Championships, Maher saying they would take it one step at a time with her.

“She’s always shown really good potential but it’s taken a little while to get there, she’s starting to get it together now though,” Maher said.

“It was a real test today, she was probably a bit out worse off at the weights but black type is the big thing to hit for her

“This was a stepping stone for her and hopefully now she can go on.

“We’ve nomed her for the TJ in Sydney and races like that, but it’s one step at a time with her.

“There’s the William Reid.

“This sort of opens up quite a bit now. This was a real target race for her and now she’s got plenty of options.”
