Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
There are eight supporting races running on Australian Guineas Day at Flemington Racecourse this Saturday including the Group 3 Frances Tressady Stakes (1400m), which has attracted a field of 10 fillies and mares.
Following the scratching of early favourite Politeness, the betting market shifted right open. Five of the runners are offering single figure odds with Madam Gangster the current favourite at $4.
The Lee & Shannon Hope-trained mare has seen a big push from the market with her price shortening from $7 to $4, making her the market mover of the field.
Madam Gangster has won her past three starts but will make her debut at black-type level of racing in the 2015 Frances Tressady Stakes. Is this enough to justify her favouritism or will one her classier rivals beat her home? Check out our betting tips for the race below.
#8 Madam Gangster ($8450)
Lee & Shannon Hope’s four-year-old mare will enjoy a jump from midfield in barrier five with Craig Williams to ride. She has seen a big push in the betting market since the scratching of Politeness due to her recent winning form. Madam Gangster won three Benchmark races in the summer, the last of which was a BM84 over 1400m at Sandown on January 26. The mare took the lead 100m out and roared away to win with ease. All three races were won by two lengths, which has given punters confidence. Madam Gangster hasn’t been since the end of last year and will be making her black-type race debut in the Frances Tressady but has won three of her five starts over the trip.
#2 Girl Guide ($6)
Girl Guide is one of two horses saddled by David Hayes & Tom Dabernig in the race, set to carry the top weight of 57kg along with stablemate Star Fashion, and will enjoy an inside jump from barrier two with Dwayne Dunn to ride. Girl Guide has placed in ten of her 13 career starts but has had a poor recent run, finishing outside the placings in all three of her past starts. The five-year-old mare finished runner-up in the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) back in October before running midfield in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) on November 1. The mare has already had two starts this campaign, both of which were unplaced runs, but could find her missing form on Saturday.
#4 Girl In Flight ($8.50)
Girl In Flight is one of two horses saddled by Robbie Griffiths in the Frances Tressady, set to jump from barrier nine with Matthew Allen. The four-year-old grey mare is resuming in Saturday’s race so won’t be as fit as many of her rivals but was a fast finishing runner-up to Suavito in the Group 2 Momentum Energy Stakes (2000m) last time out on November 8, missing out on the win by a short half-head. Girl In Flight has placed in seven of her 12 career starts and could be a lucrative bet to round out your trifecta.
