Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
11 fillies and mares are set to run in the Group 3 Frances Tressady Stakes (1400m) at Flemington this Saturday, offering punters a range of betting options.
More than half of the field is offering single figure odds at Ladbrokes.com.au with six runners at $9.50 or less. Leading the betting is the Robert Smerdon-trained Politeness at $4; the mare will shoulder the top weight of 58.5kg as she jumps midfield from barrier six with Nicholas Hall as jockey.
Politeness has a poor record over both the track and distance of the Frances Tressady Stakes but is in good form after finishing third in the Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) first-up on February 14 at Caulfield. The mare enjoyed a win in the Group 3 Summond Stakes (1500m) at the end of spring, winning two lengths clear of her rivals.
The filly is used to carry large weights, she was on 59kg in the Bellmaine, but will face some tough competition in the 2015 Frances Tressady Stakes with many of her rivals set to weigh-in at just 54kg. Check out three of her fiercer rivals below.
- #9 Scarlet Billows ($5) – Darren Weir’s four-year-old mare is the second favourite in the betting, set to make her black-type race debut in the Frances Tressady Stakes. Scarlet Billows is in good form, placing in seven of her 11 career starts. She won a Benchmark 90 over 1200m at Moonee Valley on January 24 before finishing runner-up in a Benchmark 84 one month later. Scarlet Billows will jump from barrier four with Michelle Payne to ride and carry the minimum weight.
- #2 Girl Guide ($6) – is one of two horses saddled by David Hayes & Tom Dabernig in the race. The five-year-old mare has placed in ten of her 13 career starts, including a second placing in the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) back in October. Girl Guide has finished outside the placings in all three of her past starts, including running last in the Group 3 Mannerism Stakes (1400m) last Saturday. With just one week between starts, the mare will jump from barrier two with Dwayne Dunn to ride.
- #4 Girl In Flight ($9.50) – Robbie Griffiths’ grey mare will resume in Saturday’s race with the four-year-old last seen finishing second in the Group 2 Momentum Energy Stakes (2000m) in November. Girl In Flight has proven successful first-up and will jump from barrier ten with Matthew Allen to ride.
