2015 Aspiration Quality Field & Barriers: Danesiri Out Wide

John Thompson’s Group 3 winner from last weekend Danesiri has suffered a blow in her attempt at back-to-back Sydney wins coming up with the outside draw for Saturday’s Aspiration Quality 2015 at Royal Randwick.

The Home On The Grange six-year-old is one of a dozen fillies and mares making up the final field for this year’s $150,000 Group 3 Aspiration Quality (1600m), the handicap clash running as Randwick Guineas Day Race 5 at 2:50pm (AEDT).

Last Saturday at Warwick Farm Danesiri backed up from a nice second to Thump in the Group 3 Triscay Stakes (1200m) at Randwick a fortnight earlier to win the Group 3 Guy Walter Stakes (1400m) by three-quarters of a length over Cosmic Endeavour.

She did it from a wide barrier 10 of 16 draw with Christian Reith aboard on 54kg.

On the short back-up she keeps Reith in the saddle but has the outside barrier 12 draw in the Aspiration Quality and goes up notably in the weights to 58kg.

The Aspiration Quality weights are led by the Gerald Ryan-trained Solicit carrying 59kg in barrier five with Hugh Bowman booked for the ride.

The Street Cry four-year-old hasn’t won a race since the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m) at Flemington last month so is out to break a lengthy losing streak on Saturday.

Her spring consisted of some nice runs including a close fourth to Bonaria in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) during the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

First-up she ran eighth to Tycoon Tara in the Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) before improving last Saturday to run fourth, two and a half lengths off Danesiri in the Guy Walter

She too is up in the weights though from 57kg to the 59kg topweight, but is closer on the scale to her last start conqueror in the rematch.

Ryan is also represented in the race by Define in barrier 11, the Lonhro four-year-old back in black type company for the first time since last autumn.

Along with Danesiri there are two other last stat winners in this year’s Aspiration Quality field with the Chris Waller-trained Telepathic and Gai Waterhouse’s Role Model drawn in barriers two and six respectively.

Jason Collett stays on Mossman four-year-old Telepathic, Group 1 performed in Brisbane last winter, who comes off a first-up victory over 1400m at the track from February 14.

Waller is also represented in the race by Intimate Moment in barrier seven for Kerrin McEvoy who is also on the 54kg minimum.

Role Model meanwhile has Tim Clark riding, the Bel Danoro four-year-old having won over the Randwick mile in easier company with the same hoop and weight on February 18.

Waterhouse’s other runner is then drawn nicely in gate three for top hoop Jim Cassidy, the consistent Mardi after her fourth win at start number eight.

She has finished out of the money just once before when last time out at Rosehill on February 21 the progressive Redoute’s Choice four-year-old ran a brave fourth to Catkins in the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m).
