O’Shea Trio Dominate 2015 Reisling Stakes Nominations

Trainer John O’Shea and Godolphin dominate the Reisling Stakes 2015 nominations at Randwick Racecourse this weekend with their trio of current entries led by Ottoman.

One of two official lead-ups to the coveted $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 21, this weekend’s $300,000 Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) for the fillies drew just 10 early entries.

Nominations have been extended until 11am (AEDT) on Tuesday for both it and the colts-and-geldings’ edition, the $300,000 Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) where just seven two-year-old boys are currently in the mix.

Of the fillies in the race also known as the Reisling Slipper Trial, Ottoman is the shortest priced in the futures Golden Slipper odds at Ladbrokes.com.au led by the O’Shea-trained Skyline Stakes winner Exosphere and the Team Hawkes-trained Silver Slipper champ Headwater at $5 each.

A stablemate to Exosphere, Ottoman can be found further down the all-in Golden Slipper betting markets at $15.

She has had two starts to date for a win at Rosehill on debut in December and her fourth to Headwater on February 21 in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) first-up this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

O’Shea has also nominated in the Reisling Stakes for Group 3 winning Domesday filly Antelucan who ran dead last when walking home 24 lengths off Fontiton in the Blue Diamond Prelude on February 14 and Calaverite.

Calaverite is at $26 to win the Golden Slipper at the end of March, the nicely-bred daughter of Lonhro having won the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) at Randwick last October before a first-up sixth in the Listed Lonhro Plate (1100m) back at the track in mid-February.

Also with more than one entry are both Gai Waterhouse and Gerald Ryan.

Five-time Golden Slipper winning trainer Waterhouse has her Encosta De Lago filly English coming off a winning trial here from February 23 after she won her debut at Kembla Grange in late January as well as Giulietta.

A $34 chance to hand Waterhouse with a record sixth Golden Slipper trophy this autumn, Snitzel filly Giulietta was last seen running fourth in the Lonhro Plate.

Ryan meanwhile has entered his Magic Millions 2YO Classic fifth placed Perignon and Group 3 Widden Stakes winner Fireworks.

Fireworks has been ruled out of a Golden Slipper bid but the form of her win over 1100m at Rosehill on January 31 held when runner-up Lake Geneva finished a close third to Pride Of Dubai in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) in Melbourne over the weekend.

Rounding out the original Reisling Stakes nominations are then Garry Frazer’s pervious Randwick winner Mine Two, Queensland visitor Tibrogargan Miss who ran third in the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) at Warwick Farm just last Saturday on Chipping Norton Stakes Day and lightly-raced Stay With Me who debuted with a second in the Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m) at Flemington on February 21.

Late Reisling Stakes 2015 nominations close tomorrow followed by the final field and barriers on Wednesday so stay tuned.
