Today in Adelaide, Morphettville Racecourse is host to a stellar edition of the Lord Reims Stakes 2015 with the Darren Weir-trained Taiyoo installed as the odds-on favourite to win the Adelaide Cup lead-up.
Haradasun gelding Taiyoo travels from Victoria to South Australia for today’s $115,000 Group 3 James Boags Premium Lord Reims Stakes (2600m), the set weights plus penalties clash running as Race 7 at 4:50pm (local time).
There are just nine stayers left in the field follow the early scratching of the Richard Laming-trained Refectory who had the second widest barrier.
Sitting top of the Lord Reims Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au is the firm odds-on favourite Taiyoo at a short $1.55 to win his fifth on the trot.
Drawn in barrier two with jockey Jye McNeill back aboard after winning on the Haradasun five-year-old two back over 2400m at Sandown-Hillside on February 7, Taiyoo comes off a win in the Listed Torney Night Cup (2500m) at Moonee Valley last Friday night.
He carried 60kg to victory eight days ago and will appreciate the drop back to 56.5kg here.
Following Taiyoo, who is out to earn a shot at the $400,000 Group 2 Adelaide Cup (3200m) on Monday March 9, in the Lord Reims Stakes betting markets are then two other single figure hopes.
Occupying the second line at $3.50 is another in-form runner, Lucky Lucky Lucky in barrier seven with Jason Holder to ride on 55kg.
Tony McEvoy’s Angaston-trained Lucky Owners five-year-old won the Rain Lover Stakes over 1950m at Morphettville Parks late last month before his second at this track a fortnight ago behind Éclair Samba in the Listed Birthday Cup (2032m) when beaten only half a length with 2.5kg more on his back.
The last of the single figure fancies to win this afternoon’s Lord Reims Stakes showdown at $7 is then the rails-drawn Too Cool To Fool.
A winner of three of her past five starts, the Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas-trained Gallant Guru mare was last seen winning over this track and distance in a Benchmark 90 on February 14.
The four-year-old’s regular rider Clare Lindop stays on here, Too Cool To Fool after her fifth win at start number eight at the track.
Also in the mix at more generous odds are then the likes of Nick Smart’s veteran seven-year-old Distillation ($21), Waltzing To Win ($21) coming off a second behind Too Cool To Fool a fortnight ago and Birthday Cup fourth placegetter Vima ($26).
