One of the opening races at Caulfield Racecourse on Saturday is the mares-only Mannerism Stakes 2015, betting tips for the Blue Diamond Stakes Day showdown found below.
Due to jump at 2:07pm as Caulfield Race 2, this year’s $150,000 Group 3 Mannerism Stakes (1400m) runs as the Premier Signs Stakes and features a field of just nine hopefuls.
Tycoon Tara at $3.80 leads the latest Mannerism Stakes betting markets, Symon Wilde’s four-year-old after her fifth win at start number 10.
Jumping from the outside barrier with Ben Melham retaining the ride, Tycoon Tara comes off a win over a similar field in the Group 3 Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) and is every chance to go back-to-back this weekend.
Following the favourite in the open Mannerism Stakes odds are then the Robert Smerdon-trained Bellmaine Stakes third placed Politeness ($4.20), Girl Guide ($4.40) and Myer Classic winner Bonaria ($5.50).
It is a small Mannerism Stakes field but with a host of genuine hopefuls, below are the Races.com.au team’s top three selections to lock in online now at Ladbrokes.com.au.
#1 Bonaria ($5.50)
Think $5.50 is a nice price being offered on Pat Hyland’s Group 1 winner from the spring who will get a nice run second-up here from just worse than midfield in barrier five for Dwayne Dunn. The Redoute’s Choice six-year-old won the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington to see out her campaign last November and ran well first-up when second to Tycoon Tara in the Bellmaine Stakes. She has never won first-up (from eight runs) but from seven second-up starts she has had the two wins so she should be improving on what she did last time out. Has had four previous runs over this track and distance for a 50% winning strike rate too.
#4 Tycoon Tara ($3.80)
Deserving favourite who gets the big tick from trainer Wilde. Out wide but it is a small field and she won the Group 3 over many of these same rivals in the Bellmaine from barrier eight of 10, so nine of nine should present no issues. Her record this time in reads 1st, 2nd, 1st, 2nd, 1st. So by that pattern she will be second past the post here and that looks about right. Option to either cross and lead or take the sit, the versatile mare a tough one to beat in the finish.
#2 Politeness ($4.20)
Plenty of place chances to finish off the trifecta but this Street Sense four-year-old ran well first-up in the Bellmaine Stakes and will have improved. Won the Group 3 Summoned Stakes (1500m) to finish off her spring after a Myer Classic seventh. In barrier seven and Nicholas Hall retains the ride in his fourth straight run on her back.
