Taiyoo Heads 2015 Lord Reims Stakes Field

After nominating for three hopes from his Ballarat stables, Victorian horseman Darren Weir has accepted for just Taiyoo in the Lord Reims Stakes 2015 at Morphettville Racecourse this weekend.

The Haradasun gelding is the likely Ladbrokes.com.au favourite in a 10-horse field of stayers accepted to face off in the $115,000 Group 3 James Boags Premium Lord Reims Stakes (2600m) on Saturday.

Due to jump at 4:50pm (local) as Morphettville Race 7, the Lord Reims Stakes is the traditional lead-up to the $400,000 Group 2 Adelaide Cup (3200m) run back at the track over the two miles this autumn on March 9.

Five-year-old Taiyoo leads the early Adelaide Cup betting markets at bookmakers around the country after scoring his fourth straight win at Moonee Valley last Friday night.

He went around the tight circuit in the Listed Torney Night Cup (2500m) enjoying a three-quarter length win over Crime Fighter, Weir confirming if the timing works in his favour he will run in the Adelaide Cup.

The horse takes his next step towards that then in the Lord Reims Stakes where he and apprentice hoop Jye McNeil jump from barrier two with 56.5kg, a nice drop back from the hefty 60kg Taiyoo carried to victory last weekend.

The next shortest-priced Adelaide Cup hope taking on Taiyoo in the Lord Reims Stakes on Saturday is then the Tony McEvoy-trained local Lucky Lucky Lucky.

Jason Holder has the ride on the Lucky Owners gelding who won the Rain Lover Stakes (1950m) at Morphettville Parks on January 31 on the back of his third to Multilateral in the Listed Tattersall’s Cup (2400m) at Randwick on New Year’s Day.

His latest start was then over 2032m on the course proper at Morphettville a fortnight ago when finishing a half-length away second to Éclair Samba in the Listed Birthday Cup.

He had 57.5kg and barrier eight that day and so will appreciate the drop to 55kg from a similar draw here.

Heading the Lord Reims Stakes field with the number one saddlecloth meanwhile is the Nick Smart-trained Distillation.

A 52-start veteran, the Half Hennessy seven-year-old won at the track and distance two back, which was his second over 2600m at Morphettville, before a fifth last time out on January 17 at the Parks behind Too Cool To Fool in a Benchmark 82 handicap.

The Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas-trained winner of that race, Too Cool To Fool also backs up in the Lord Reims Stakes.

Clare Lindop has the ride on the in-form Gallant Guru mare, the four-year-old after her fifth win from eight runs at the track.

Too Cool To Fool drops from 55kg to the 54kg minimum here and gets the run of the race from barrier one.

Runner-up behind the four-year-old mare on February 14, Waltzing To Win is another genuine hope in the rematch.

The David Huxtable-trained Benicio mare was beaten just over two lengths first-up but should be improving on that with form up to two miles having run a brave fourth to Renew in the Listed Sandown Cup (3200m) last November.

Other notable hopes include the Richard Laming-trained Refectory, Lloyd Kennewell’s last start winner Hoylake, and Macdonald and Gluyas’s other runner Gossip Guru.
