A third of the field is offering single figure odds in the betting market at, which means punters have a variety of winning potential.

Leading the betting is John Thompson’s First Seal at $2.30. The three-year-old filly was last seen running second in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) on February 14 where she simply couldn’t keep up with Adrift.

First Seal will return to her ideal distance of 1400 metres on Saturday as she jumps from barrier seven with Blake Shinn. The filly was a fast finishing runner-up of a Benchmark 70 over the trip last August before winning the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) on September 20.

However First Seal will be jumping from her widest start since her debut back in May last year and face some tough fillies in the 2015 Surround Stakes, including three other single figure hopefuls who are all coming via the Light Fingers Stakes.

  • #4 Winx ($6) – One of three Chris Waller-trained fillies in contention for the race, Winx was disappointing first-up in the Light Fingers Stakes and will need to prove herself in the Surround Stakes. Winx won a handicap over the trip last June before finishing a close second to First Seal in the Tea Rose Stakes. The three-year-old filly will jump from barrier nine with Jason Collett.
  • #7 Adrift ($6)Gai Waterhouse’s filly may have been a lucrative $41 bet heading into the Light Fingers but there’s no chance of long odds for Adrift again after she stole the race, comfortably winning by three-quarters of a length. Adrift will return to Warwick Farm where she won a Benchmark 62 in November and enjoy a midfield jump from barrier six with Tye Angland. The filly is the market mover of the field after her price shortened from $7.50 following support from punters.
  • #1 Peggy Jean ($9) – Rounding out the single figure hopefuls is Gerald Ryan’s Peggy Jean who won the Group 1 Sires Produce Stakes over the distance last April. The filly ran a strong fourth in the Light Fingers Stakes just one and a half lengths off the winner and will jump from barrier five with champion hoop Kerrin McEvoy.
