While the Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) is running at Warwick Farm this Saturday for two-year-old colts and geldings, their female counterparts will run in the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) directly after, which has attracted a field of 12 juveniles.
Five of the 12 runners are offering single figure odds in the betting market at Ladbrokes.com.au, led by Always Allison.
One of two Chris Waller-trained fillies in the race, Always Allison opened the betting as $2.80 favourite but has seen her price ease a bit out to $3.20.
One must be Always Allison’s lucky number. The filly has made just one start to date, which she won, but has also enjoyed three winning barrier trials in the past eight weeks. The filly is also set to jump from barrier one in the Sweet Embrace Stakes with Glyn Schofield to ride.
Always Allison will return to Warwick Farm, where she made her debut on February 4 in a maiden plate over 1150 metres. The filly was smartly away and settled nicely just outside the leader. She put pressure on the colt nearing the home turn before easily taking the lead on straightening. She drew away to win decisively by two and a half lengths. The filly then delivered a superb barrier trial win over 900m two weeks later.
She will face some tough competition in the 2015 Sweet Embrace Stakes, including from her four single figure odds rivals.
- #8 Speak Fondly ($4.20) – Gai Waterhouse’s hope in the Sweet Embrace Stakes is Speak Fondly, who hasn’t been seen since running running third on debut in the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) back in October. The filly did return to trialing earlier this month, winning over 1050m at Randwick on February 10. Speak Fondly will jump from barrier six with champion hoop Kerrin McEvoy.
- #6 Micucci ($7) – The second of Waller’s runners in the race, Micucci will have to overcome a wide start from the outside gate (12). The filly has yet to win or even place in any of her three starts and was last seen running fourth in the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m), in which she was just three-quarters of a length off winner Fireworks.
- #1 Lady Jivaho ($9.50) – Jeffrey Englebrecht’s star filly rounds out the single figure odds along with Circular. The filly will have to overcome a wide start from barrier 11 but has won both of her previous starts, including the Inglis Classic (1200m) on February 7.
- #11 Circular ($9.50) – The better priced of the two Godolphin fillies in the race, Circular will jump from barrier ten with James McDonald. She has just one career start to her name, running third in a maiden race over 1200m at Randwick last Wednesday.
