Set to open the racing action at Caulfield on Saturday, this year’s $150,000 Group 3 Zeditave Stakes (1200m) jumps at 1:30pm (AEDT) and features a final field of nine three-year-old colts and geldings.

One of the highest rated of those youngsters is Lindsay Park’s War Pass colt Galaxy Pegasus drawn in barrier seven for jockey Craig Williams.

He won back-to-back races during the spring including the Group 3 Red Anchor Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate Day before failing in his latest start.

On Derby Day, November 1, Galaxy Pegasus ran a distant 15th when outclassed in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) won by Brazen Beau.

Heading the Zeditave Stakes field though with the number one saddlecloth is the Neville Parnham-trained Perth raider Rommel in gate four for WA apprentice Chris Parnham.

Commands colt Rommel won the Group 2 WA Guineas (1600m) back home at Ascot in November before a seventh to Chris Waller’s visiting Sydneysider Moriarty in the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) in December.

His last start was a first-up third in the Magic Millions Perth 3YO Stakes over 1200m on February 14, an effort he’ll be improving on hopefully for his interstate debut.

Rommel is in Melbourne for a shot at the $500,000 Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on March 7 and currently pays $26 in the early markets at Ladbrokes.com.au for the autumn mile feature.

Also in the mix is the Wendy Kelly-trained Charge Forward gelding Fast Cash who won first-up over this distance at Moonee Valley in a set weights race for three-year-olds last month.

He ran again in the Group 3 Manfred Stakes (1300m) on Australia Day when seventh to Java, but was beaten only around four lengths with improvement to come as he drops back down to 1200m.

One of the other genuine chances in the race is the Peter Moody-trained Fastnet Rock colt Armada who ran a brave fourth to subsequent Black Caviar Lightning Stakes runner-up Brazen Beau in the Coolmore Stud Stakes.

He backed up from that the following Saturday to run fourth again, this time beaten under two lengths, to Lord Aspen in the Listed Hilton Hotel Stakes (1400m) at Flemington – Saturday his first start since.

Moody has also accepted for stablemate Ulmann in the outside barrier for jockey Luke Nolen, the Sebring colt last seen running one further back for fifth in the Hilton Hotel Stakes on Emirates Stakes Day in the spring.

Other notable Zeditave Stakes hopefuls include the Team Hawkes-trained grey Onerous in gate two for Dwayne Dunn and the Clinton McDonald-trained Schneller on the rails.
