2015 Liverpool City Cup Field & Barrier Draw

The Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) is one of seven races running in support of the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Warwick Farm this Saturday, attracting a top-class field of 14 sprint-mile runners.

Headlining the race field is Gerald Ryan’s Hot Snitzel, who will have to carry the top weight of 59kg and overcome a wide start from barrier 13 with Blake Shinn as jockey.

Six-year-old gelding Hot Snitzel won the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes (1200m) last April but has run outside the placings in all four of his subsequent starts. The gelding was disappointing in Brisbane during the winter, finishing end of the field in both the Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) and Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m).

Following a nine month absence, Hot Snitzel returned to the track in the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on February 14. Despite finishing seventh of nine runners, the gelding was just two and a half lengths off winner Heart Testa.

Ryan will also saddle Red Excitement in the 2015 Liverpool City Cup. The five-year-old gelding will enjoy a jump from barrier four with Brenton Avdulla to ride.

Red Excitement enjoyed three consecutive handicap race wins this time last year however an injury caused the gelding to miss the majority of the 2014 season. He made his return after a ten month absence in the Drummond Gold Handicap (1400m) on December 20, continuing his winning streak after winning a head from Burbero.

The gelding stepped up to black-type racing for the first time since April 2013 in the Listed Chester Manifold Stakes (1400m) on January 17, which he managed to win a short half-head from Tried And Tired.

Kevin MosesSinging Flame will enjoy the inside jump from barrier one with Glyn Schofield while Peter & Paul Snowden’s Group One runner Gypsy Diamond will have to overcome a wide start from the outside gate.

Kris LeesThump will look to follow-up his Group 3 Triscay Stakes (1200m) win with a similar result in the Liverpool City Cup. The four-year-old mare will jump from barrier 10 with Tye Angland.

The Jarrod Austin-trained Territory has scored a minor placing in all three of his starts this campaign, including the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) and Southern Cross Stakes. The gelding will jump from barrier 12 with Jim Cassidy.

Four-year-old gelding Rudy will get his first start after a two month spell in the Liverpool City Cup. The Helen Page-trained gelding finished second in two handicap races at Doomben in the spring before winning the Listed Recognition Stakes (1630m) at the end of November.

The gelding then travelled to Sydney for the first time on December 14 to win the Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m).

Rudy will jump from barrier 11 with Luke Tarrant to ride.
