Rommel Heads 2015 Zeditave Stakes Nominations

Neville Parnham’s Perth raider Rommel heads east this weekend looking to break through in Melbourne’s Zeditave Stakes 2015 on Blue Diamond Stakes Day.

The Western Australian-trained Commands colt is one of 13 three-year-old colts and geldings making up the early entries for the $150,000 Group 3 Zeditave Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield Racecourse for Saturday.

He earned a trip to Victoria after a strong spring – summer season back home that included a win over fellow Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival hopeful Disposition, runner-up to Wandjina in last Saturday’s Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) at Flemington, in the Group 2 WA Guineas (1600m) in November.

First-up he raced on February 14 at Ascot and was a close third to Red Ora in the Magic Millions Perth 3YO Trophy (1200m), an effort connections are hoping he can improve on second-up in Melbourne to continue the good form coming out of the WA Guineas last year.

Coming off a win meanwhile is Luke Oliver’s local Snitzel colt Zeletto who beat home his rivals in a Benchmark 70 over 1000m under the lights at Moonee Valley just last Friday night.

Other notable Zeditave Stakes hopefuls include Lindsay Park’s Group 3 Red Anchor Stakes winner Galaxy Pegasus last seen running 15th in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) on Derby Day and fellow Group 3 champ Nostradamus who was runner-up to Brazen Beau in the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes before a 13th in the Coolmore behind the same horse.

The Coolmore Stud Stakes form from the spring held last Saturday when the Chris Waller-trained winner Brazen Beau finished second to runaway winner Lankan Rupee in the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m).

The best over the line in the Coolmore Stud Stakes nominated for the Zeditave meanwhile is the Peter Moody-trained Armada.

A son of Fastnet Rock, the colt was fourth in the Group 1 and fourth again last time out a week later behind Lord Aspen in the Listed Hilton Hotels Stakes (1400m) on November 8.

Moody has also nominated for his Sebring colt Ulmann who was fifth in the Hilton Hotels Stakes and who also resumes racing on Saturday if accepted.

Last year’s Zeditave Stakes winner was Not Listenin’tome who went on to run a brave second to Appearance in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at Randwick in Sydney making the form out of this year’s race worth following.

See below for the official Zeditave Stakes 2015 nominations that will be cut to the final field of acceptors on Wednesday.
