Minnesinger Enjoys Course Proper Work Ahead of 2015 Autumn Classic

The lightly-run Minnesinger enjoyed trackwork on the course proper this morning as he prepares for his biggest test yet.

Ridden by Dwayne Dunn for the second time and working with Mick Price’s Moonovermanhattan, Minnesinger brushed home his final 400 metres in just 22.35 seconds.

“I thought his work was pretty good,” co-trainer Anthony Freedman told TVN.

It took Minnesinger a little while to get going, finishing outside the placings in his first two career starts, however the colt won his maiden on January 4 over 1462m at Kilmore. The colt then travelled to Sandown one month later and won a Benchmark 64 over 1600m impressively by one and three-quarter lengths.

He was set to tackle the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) last Saturday but was scratched from the race when training brothers Anthony and Lee Freedman decided Minnesinger needed to go out instead of back in distance.

“Clearly, he’s a promising horse, but like all of them he has to measure up to a better level,” Freedman continued.

“Saturday is a nice enough race for him. It is short of the top horses, but if he can do a job there you would look at something again.

“We’ll get through Saturday and see what is on offer for him.”

Minnesinger is one of 18 three-year-olds nominated for the 2015 Autumn Classic, which is headlined by Group 2 Moonee Valley Vase (2040m) winner Moonovermanhattan, Vobis Gold Star (1500m) winner Hong Kong Captain, Mark Kavanagh’s Magicool, and Group 2 Autumn Stakes (1400m) third Firehouse Rock.

Following the 2015 Autumn Classic, Minnesinger will aim to earn a place in the field for the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) on March 7. The colt was one of 29 that remained in contention for the $500,000 race after first acceptances were taken this afternoon, down from an initial 122 nominations.
