Dear Demi Headlines 2015 Guy Walter Stakes Nominations

The Group 3 Guy Walter Stakes (1400m) is set to be a top-class race after 17 mares were nominated for the $150,000 race on Monday morning.

The Guy Walter Stakes (previously known as the Wiggle Stakes) is one of eight black-type races running at Warwick Farm this Saturday on Chipping Norton Stakes Day.

Clarry ConnersDear Demi is set to resume in Saturday’s race with the five-year-old mare headlining the nominations. Dear Demi finished runner-up in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) in the spring before winning the Group 2 Stocks Stakes (1600m). The five-year-old ran seventh in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) on October 11 but her campaign was cut short after an elevated temperature sent her to the spelling paddock.

Dear Demi enjoyed an exhibition gallop last week, in which she was racing just as good as ever, and is set to dominate the 2015 Guy Walter Stakes.

Gai Waterhouse could deliver a dual-pronged attack on the race after nominating both Cosmic Endeavour and Diamond Drille.

Four-year-old mare Cosmic Endeavour won three consecutive races last winter, including the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm in Brisbane. Following an eight month break, the mare resumed in the Group 3 Triscay Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on February 14 but couldn’t keep up with the first three finishers.

Tinto, Thump, and Hera are all dually nominated for both the Guy Walter Stakes and Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

Rex Lipp’s Tinto has finished in the first three in all four of her past starts, which includes winning the Magic Millions Stayers Cup (1800m) at the Gold Coast on January 10. The mare is set to race outside of Queensland for the first time this weekend, whichever race she ends up in.

Thump and Hera are both trained by Kris Lees and were last seen in the Group 3 Triscay Stakes (1200m) two weeks ago. Thump excelled in the race, winning a head clear of her closest rival while Hera finished midfield in eighth place.

Other classy mares nominated for the 2015 Guy Walter Stakes include Group 3 Golden Pendant (1400m) winner Arabian Gold, Chris Waller’s Arinosa, John Sargent’s Neena Rock, Listed Sunshine Coast Cup (1400m) winner Tarloshan, and Triscay Stakes third My Sabeel.
