Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
There are seven black-type races running in support of the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Warwick Farm this Saturday, one of which is the Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) that has attracted 20 nominations.
Sharing the top spot in the large race field are Gerald Ryan’s Hot Snitzel and Rex Lipp’s Tinto. Hot Snitzel won the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes (1200m) last April but didn’t fare as well when he travelled to Brisbane during the winter. The six-year-old gelding finished end of the field in all three of his starts, including the Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) and Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m).
Hot Snitzel was spelled for nine months following his unsuccessful tilt in Brisbane, resuming in the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on February 14. The gelding enjoyed a jump from barrier one and finished just two and a half lengths off winner Heart Testa in a solid first-up run.
Tinto has had more success of late, finishing in the first three in all four of his campaign starts. Like Hot Snitzel, Tinto was less than impressive last winter and was subsequently spelled for the entire spring season. The four-year-old mare resumed in the summer, finishing runner-up in the Listed Travel Associates Classic (1200m) at Doomben on November 29.
The mare earned her place in the Magic Millions Stayers Cup (1800m) following two more successful runs and won the Gold Coast race one and a half lengths clear of Our Boy Nicholas. She is now set to travel to Sydney for the first time for the 2015 Liverpool City Cup.
Southern Cross Stakes winner Heart Testa also features in the nominations and is one of two horses nominated by Chris Waller. The premier trainer could also saddle Bull Point but the four-year-old horse could travel to Melbourne instead for the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) after the horse was one of four late entries on Tuesday morning.
Gerald Ryan has nominated Red Excitement alongside stable mate Hot Snitzel. The five-year-old gelding has won his last five starts, including the Listed Chester Manifold Stakes (1400m), however he missed out on running in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) on February 14 after he was scratched from the race.
Kris Lees could dominate the Liverpool City Cup after nominating four of his stable stars – Slow Pace, Hera, Scorpio Queen, and Group 3 Triscay Stakes (1200m) winner Thump.
Other notable horses nominated for the race include Helen Page’s Rudy, who has not been seen since he won the Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) back in December, three-time minor placer Territory, and Lee Curtis’ Press Report.
Check out the complete list of nominations below before the final field is released on Wednesday morning.
