Betting for the 2018 Group 1 $700,000 Altus...
After being withdrawn from last weekend’s Silver Slipper Stakes, the John O’Shea-trained Holler now heads the Skyline Stakes 2015 nominations for Warwick Farm this weekend.
Originally connections looked at a run in the $250,000 Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on February 21 for Commands colt Holler.
He was scratched from the race, which was subsequently won by new 2015 Golden Slipper favourite Headwater, the Friday before however and saved for this Saturday’s $175,000 Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) on Chipping Norton Stakes Day.
“We are really happy with Holler but we decided to wait a week with him,” O’Shea told The Daily Telegraph last week.
“I just felt 1200m on his home track at Warwick Farm (Skyline Stakes) next Saturday would be ideal for him.”
O’Shea and Godolphin have a total of three current Skyline Stakes entries, nominations for the set weights clash for two-year-old colts and geldings extended until 11am (AEDT) on Tuesday.
Holler then could be joined by as many as three stablemates with O’Shea also nominating for Lonhro colt Mogador and his last start conqueror Exosphere.
Another son of top sire Lonhro, Exosphere debuted with a seventh to Single Gaze last November before returning to win at Kembla Grange over 1000m on February 14 by an easy four and a quarter lengths.
Only two have been confirmed however with jockeys decided for both Holler and Exosphere, the former to have Godolphin’s newly-retained English hoop James Doyle aboard.
“James Doyle will also ride Holler in the Skyline Stakes while James McDonald will be on Exosphere,” O’Shea told AAP.
Both gallopers, along with the bulk of the other Skyline Stakes nominations, head towards a run in the world’s richest race for juveniles – the $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 21.
Futures Golden Slipper odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are led by the aforementioned Silver Slipper Stakes winner Headwater ($4.80) ahead of Vancouver who is prepared by five-time Golden Slipper winning trainer Gai Waterhouse.
Waterhouse and connections made a last minute decision not to run Canonbury Stakes winner Vancouver in the Skyline Stakes however despite his brilliant 734m trial win at Randwick on Monday morning.
Exosphere then is the shortest priced of the Skyline Stakes nominees in the pre-field Golden Slipper betting markets at a current quote of $15.
The other best fancied to win the Group 1 who are nominated for the weekend’s event are Holler ($17), the unraced Gerald Ryan-trained Fastnet Rock colt Deploy ($26), Gary Portelli’s Lonhro Plate fifth placed Sebring Sun ($26) and the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Wolf Cry ($26) coming off a third in the same race won by Haptic.
Stay tuned for any late Skyline Stakes 2015 nominations on Tuesday morning.
