Whittlesea-based trainer Peter Morgan & Craig Widdison could give progressive filly Eloping a Friday night run at Moonee Valley instead of stepping her up to Group 1 company for Saturday’s 2015 Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield.
A decision is pending on which race to tackle second-up with the three-year-old daughter of Choisir, Eloping having run seventh when beaten six lengths first-up by the classy Chautauqua in the Group 2 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) on February 14.
That was her first run since the Group 3 Champagne Stakes and Listed Blue Sapphire Stakes winner ran second to Onemorezeta in the Group 3 Red Roses (1100m) at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup Carnival last November.
She worked at Moonee Valley on Monday and could be back at the track under the lights on Friday night for a shot at the $150,000 Group 3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes (1200m) against a field of fellow three-year-old fillies.
Alternatively she could be saved for Blue Diamond Stakes Day on Saturday and run in the $400,000 Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) in tougher company, although co-trainer Widdison admits the Group 3 was the preferred option at this stage.
“I think we’re leaning towards the Typhoon Tracy but we’ll just work that out over the next couple of days,” he told Racing Victoria.
“She worked in company this morning and she worked well, they didn’t go flat-out but she did it pretty easily.
“We can’t find anything wrong with her, her action seems good and her attitude at home hasn’t changed so we’re just hoping she’s still interested in racing.”
The stable also put Star Rolling through his paces at the Valley this morning, the Casino Prince gelding having run 10th in his past three starts all at Group 1 level.
The first was behind He’s Your Man in Sydney’s Epsom Handicap in October before the Mackinnon Stakes over 2000m at Flemington on Derby Day.
The five-year-old then resumed on February 14 in the CF Orr Stakes over 1400m but was beaten six lengths by the Peter Moody-trained winner Dissident.
He will be nominated for the $200,000 Group 2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield on Saturday but could be saved for the easier $80,000 Listed C.S. Hayes Memorial Cup (1600m) at Morphettville on Adelaide Cup Day on March 9.
