2015 Autumn Classic Nominations Released

18 middle-distance runners were nominated for the Group 2 Autumn Classic (1800m) on Monday morning, one of eight Group races running at Caulfield this Saturday. The race meeting is set to be action-packed with three Group One races running alone.

Both Mick Price and David Hayes & Tom Dabernig could deliver a dual-pronged attack on the 2015 Autumn Classic after nominating two three-year-olds each.

Price will be represented by Moonovermanhattan and The Chairman. Moonovermanhattan won the Group 1 Moonee Valley Vase (2040m) dominantly back in October but has run unplaced in all three of his subsequent starts, which included finishing end of the field in both the Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) and Group 3 Manfred Stakes (1300m). The colt just missed out on a placing last time out in the Group 2 Autumn Stakes (1400m) on February 14.

Price’s second runner The Chairman is lightly run with just two career starts to his name, neither of which he won let alone placed in.

David Hayes & Tom Dabernig will continue their quest for a training premiership in Melbourne after nominating both Firehouse Rock and Hong Kong Captain.

Firehouse Rock won his maiden in September last year at Caulfield over 1700m but has failed to win any of his five subsequent starts. The colt did manage to run third in both the Group 3 Caulfield Classic (2000m) back in October along with the Autumn Stakes nine days ago.

Hong Kong Captain has won two of his four career starts, including the Vobis Gold Star (1500m) on January 24 and finished outside the placings for the first time in the Autumn Stakes, in which the gelding finished fifth.

Other horses nominated for the 2015 Autumn Classic include Tom HughesChill Party, Ciaron Maher’s Duibio, Listed UCI Stakes (1800m) winner Magicool, Lee & Anthony Freedman’s Minnesinger, and Wez Hunter’s Pepperjack.
