14 2YO Fillies Nominated for 2015 Sweet Embrace Stakes

14 two-year-old fillies are set to take the next step towards the Group 1 Inglis Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) this Saturday after they were nominated for the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m).

The Sweet Embrace Stakes is one of seven black-type races running at Warwick Farm on Saturday, running in support of the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m).

John O’Shea, Chris Waller, and Gerald Ryan are all set to deliver dual-pronged attacks on the race after nominating two juveniles each.

O’Shea could be represented by Circular, who made her debut at Randwick last Wednesday, and Italy, who finished runner-up in the Tab Betting Season Plate (1000m) on debut back in November before winning the Tab Rewards Handicap (1100m) on February 11.

Always Allison is Waller’s best chance at winning the Sweet Embrace Stakes after she won her maiden on debut by two lengths in the Tab Rewards Plate (1150m) earlier this month at Warwick Farm. Before then she had won her two barrier trials and went on to impressively win another by three and a half lengths last Tuesday.

Waller’s second nominated filly is Micucci, who remains without a win or place from her three career starts. She was last seen running fourth in the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m) back in January.

Gerald Ryan has nominated two last start winners – Heavenly Hand and Thorsborne.

The Team Hawkes-trained Lake Geneva is nominated for the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday however will line-up in the Sweet Embrace Stakes if she fails to make the order of entry for the $1 million race.

The filly was a fast-finishing runner-up in the Widden Stakes, just a head off winner Fireworks, in her first and only run to date.

Clarry Conners has nominated Mowgli while Gary Portelli has nominated Racy, who finished end of the field in the $2 million Magic Millions Classic (1200m) on January 10.
