Waterhouse saddled classy import The Offer to success in the 2014 edition of the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m), and revealed the major staying event on Day 2 of The Championships will figure as the major target for Greatwood this season.
“A serious racehorse,” Waterhouse said.
“I don’t even have him at 100% yet so he can only improve on today – he’s such a lovely gelding, he really is.
“How about when they came to him and he just found another leg and just picked up and picked up in the straight.
“I’m setting him for the Sydney Cup.”
Berry was excellent on Greatwood for success in the 2015 Parramatta Cup and is confident he is more than capable of progressing into a serious Sydney Cup contender.
“He was like that last preparation – he ran well first-up,” Berry said.
“The best part about him is when all the tools come out he’s the last one standing.
“He probably just wanted strong enough and mature enough (in spring).
“He’s on this path to the Sydney Cup I think and he’ll run all day, so that’s his go.”
Securing his fourth race win in taking out the 2015 Parramatta Cup, Greatwood will need undoubtedly need to find an extra gear if to overcome a Sydney Cup field likely to include Who Shot Thebarman, Protectionist and Red Cadeaux.
