Pleased with the form and class displayed by the six-year-old since returning to racing this time, Chris Waller is confident the course, conditions and distance will play into the strengths of Diametric in this afternoon’s Listed Parramatta Cup (1900m) at Rosehill.
Contesting two strong Randwick barrier trials through December, Diametric returned to competition for an impressive win in the Declaration Of War Plate (1600m) on January 19th before running a credible fifth behind fellow Parramatta Cup contender Burbero in the TAB Rewards Handicap (1500m) most recently on February 7th.
Believing he should have won his most recent start, Waller is confident his runner is the formed horse of the 2015 Parramatta Cup field and is also expecting a polished performance from stable mate Black Jag.
“Some have just about reached their full potential and some are looking for further,” Waller told AAP.
“Diametric is probably our main chance but there will be no excuses for Black Jag.
“I was disappointed he didn’t win last start.”
Performing well in several summer trials over 2013/14, the Dansili gelding returned late autumn for seventh in the Group 3 Sky High Stakes (1900m) on March 22nd, but failing to make an impact when 12th in each of the Group 3 Doncaster Prelude (1500m) and Group 3 Japan Racing Association Plate (2000m).
Allocated barrier three for the 2015 Parramatta Cup, Diametric has been confirmed to be partnered by in-form hoop Blake Shinn.
