Hallowed Crown Posts Impressive Hobartville Stakes Win

Group 1 winner Hallowed Crown has continued his perfect record of first-up race wins at Rosehill Gardens this afternoon, kicking exceptionally well late take out the talent-rich Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) in impressive fashion.

Jumping from the gates well, Hugh Bowman immediately settled the Street Sense entire in prime position on the heels of early leaders Shooting To Win, Meursault and Panzer Division, who set a noticeably quick tempo away from the barriers.

Finding a good rhythm rounding the corner and pressing along the fence, Hallowed Crown appeared to be inconvenienced by Panzer Division early, but locked in a fierce sprint battle with Sweynesse, Shooting To Win and Kermadec; poking clear late to hit the line a head forward of the Godolphin three-year-old with Kermadec maintaining for third.

James Cummings was understandably thrilled with Hallowed Crown’s win in the 2015 Hobartville Stakes and believes the race will figure as an ideal tune-up ahead of the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) in two weeks’ time.

“We took him to that 1000m barrier trial and we don’t often trial the horse,” Cummings said after the win.

“He showed every indication he needed it and I can understand that some people had their doubts because of it but gee he trained on from that trial.

“You come here with confidence; walk into the Rosehill mounting yard and there’s a stallion roster virtually of competition.

“Full credit to horses like Sweynesse, Shooting To Win, Scissor Kick; they look magnificent and they were right there and will be very hard to beat in two weeks but I think what my horse has is a winning attitude.

“He was bulldozed to win and still picked himself up, lifted off the canvas and hit the line very hard.”

Hugh Bowman is currently in a patch of purple form and was typically brilliant aboard Hallowed Crown in the 2015 Hobartville Stakes.

“I’d like to congratulate James. James is very hands on with the stable obviously and he’s given this horse one trial and was thinking of going to the Apollo last week and it was full of weight-for-age stars,” Bowman said after dismounting.

“For a young man early in his career to be dealing with a horse like this, it’s a credit to him and his staff, they’ve done a wonderful job and I would expect this is the beginning of a big campaign for the horse.

“I had a smooth run to the 400 and I could sense an opportunity to get over the back of Jim Cassidy (Meursault) and Tommy Berry (Panzer Division) being the competitive rider he is was having none of that.

“This horse is so kind I was able to just keep him in his rhythm without losing my gates and he knew where that line is – he showed us in the Golden Rose last year and he showed us again this afternoon.”

Hallowed Crown will almost certainly jump favourite in the 2015 Randwick Guineas after this afternoon’s impressive Hobartville Stakes win.
