The Doomben Cup 2018 takes centre stage in...
Racing at Flemington Racecourse this Saturday kicks off with the two-year-olds facing off in the Talindert Stakes 2015, betting tips for the juvenile’s sprint showdown found below.
There are a dozen youngsters in the field for this year’s opening Black Caviar Lightning Stakes Day event, the $120,000 Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m) to kick things off at 12:55pm (AEDT).
Leading the latest Talindert Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au is narrow $4.40 favourite Jameka for jockey Craig Williams in barrier five.
The Ciaron Maher-trained Myboycharlie filly is out to break her maiden status at start number three, the Inglis 2YO Premier runner-up from February 7 also racing for a shot at the $1 million Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield Saturday week.
In tight Talindert Stakes odds there are three other single figure hopes all at $5 or under to win with Team Hawkes’ unraced Nicconi colt Vicious ($4.60), fellow debutant Stay With Me ($4.80) for David Hayes and Tom Dabernig, and Danny O’Brien’s recent Flemington winner Ragazzo Del Corsa ($5).
So will one of these first four in the markets salute for the punters?
And with so many livewire chances in a race that is hard to predict, should you look at a double figure outsider for value such as Brooklyn ($11) or Bosnia ($13) drawn in the two outside barriers respectively?
#1 Ragazzo Del Corsa ($5)
Five dollars looks good value for this progressive, local Stratum colt to go back-to-back after breaking his maiden status here over 1000m on January 10. His debut was a third to one-time Blue Diamond favourite Secret Agenda, who had lots of hype on her until she was injured during the BD Fillies Prelude last weekend. Then first-up he defeated subsequent BD Fillies Preview fourth placed Helsingor by a tidy two lengths in the Better Beyond Plate. Freshened up after that and looks every chance for another win from a gun barrier two draw.
#6 Take Pride ($15)
Not much hype on this Murray Johnson-trained galloper out in barrier seven for jockey Mark Zahra, but a record of two wins from three starts say they can run. Nicely bred being a daughter of past Blue Diamond Stakes winner Reward For Effort, this filly won her opening two starts including down the 1000m at Flemington on New Year’s Day before being outclassed in the BD Fillies Preview when 12th to Fontiton on January 26. Won a trial since then and could be ready for black type now.
#12 Stay With Me ($4.80)
All in the breeding and trainer’s confidence with this daughter of 2006 Golden Slipper winner Miss Finland. This Street Cry filly is prepared by the Lindsay Park boys and they’ve got some hype on her hoping she can win the race her mother did very early in her career on Saturday before progressing onto the $3.5 million Golden Slipper in Sydney next month.
