Four of the juveniles are offering single figure odds in the betting market at Ladbrokes.com.au, led by race favourite Ottoman at odds of $2.40.
The John O’Shea-trained filly currently shares the top spot in the Golden Slipper futures betting with Vancouver, who was a non-acceptor for the 2015 Silver Slipper Stakes, and will give the bookies an even better idea of where she stands ahead of the $3.5 million race next month in her run on Saturday.
Ottoman made her debut in the Tab Place Multi Plate (1100m) back in December and has impressed in two barrier trials. However her potential remains fairly untapped. The filly will need to overcome a wide start from the outside gate with James McDonald to ride.
Team Hawkes’ Headwater has seen a massive push from punters with his price shortening from $4.80 to $3.60 in the past 24 hours. The two-year-old colt won the Cactus Imaging Plate (1000m) on debut at Moonee Valley, two and three-quarter lengths clear of Stoker, and enjoyed a solid jump-out on Tuesday.
Headwater will jump from barrier four with Blake Shinn to ride.
The Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Paceman enjoyed a massive 6.8 length winning margin in his first official barrier trial last October before winning his maiden on debut in the Appin Plate (1100m). He was last seen finishing second to Sebring Sun in a barrier trial at Warwick Farm on February 9.
John O’Shea will saddle two horses in the 2015 Silver Slipper Stakes. As well as running Ottoman from the outside gate, the trainer will also enjoy a run from the inside gate with Holler, who has drawn barrier one with Sam Clipperton to ride.
The two-year-old colt is the most recent runner to make their debut, winning the Hyland Race Colours Plate (1100m) at Randwick on January 17.
