A capacity field of 13 potential stayers plus two emergencies is set to travel to Rosehill on Saturday for the Listed Parramatta Cup (1900m).
More than half the field is offering single figure odds in the betting at Ladbrokes.com.au with Diametric leading the charge at $4.
Diametric is one of six runners due to be saddled by Chris Waller in the race and will enjoy an inside jump from barrier three with Blake Shinn. The six-year-old gelding has finished in the first two in two of her three starts over 1900m but has never won at Rosehill.
Two more of Waller’s charge are offering single figure odds in the Parramatta Cup betting – Black Jag ($7) and Grand Marshal ($9.50).
Six-year-old gelding Black Jag will be in the gate next to Diametric (four) with Glyn Schofield to ride. He has enjoyed plenty of success over both the track and distance of the race, and even both at the same time (5:0-2-1).
Black Jag was last seen running second in a Benchmark 95 race over 2000m at Rosehill two weeks ago, finishing half a length behind Centre Pivot.
Grand Marshal will have to overcome a wide start from barrier 14 but slips into the single figure betting after finishing in the first three in four consecutive runs during the spring.
The other single figure hopefuls include Pajaro ($6), Burbero ($6.50), Greatwood ($7), and Less Is More ($9.50).
Gai Waterhouse’s Pajaro will jump from barrier 13 with Brenton Avdulla. The four-year-old gelding has placed in seven of his ten starts, which includes winning the Significant Stakes over 1900m at Rosehill, which makes him a winner over the track & distance of the 2015 Parramatta Cup.
Bjorn Baker’s Burbero has yet to step up to 1900m in his 32 starts however his trainer believes it’s the ideal time after the six-year-old gelding finished in the first two in all five of his past starts.
Waterhouse’s second horse in the race, Greatwood, is also available at single figure odds. The five-year-old gelding enjoyed his share of success at black-type level during the spring, winning the Listed Premier Cup (1800m) and running second in the Listed Murless Stakes (2800m).
The final runner offering single figure odds is David Vandyke’s Less Is More. The seven-year-old gelding will jump from barrier 11 with Kathy O’Hara as jockey.
