2015 Millie Fox Stakes Race Tips

Rosehill will play host to three exciting Group Two races this Saturday. One such race is the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m), which has attracted a field of eight fillies and mares.

Mardi will look to continue her streak of three wins and three second placings from her six starts in the Millie Fox Stakes.

Just three of the runners are offering single figure odds in the betting market at Ladbrokes.com.au, led by odds-on favourite Catkins at $1.90.

The Chris Waller-trained grey mare is one of three last-start winners and will have fitness on her side after successful defending her title in the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m) two weeks ago.

Is this enough to justify Catkins’ favouritism in the betting? Or will another runner with more lucrative odds steal the show? Check out our 2015 Millie Fox Stakes betting tips below to get a clue about who to back this Saturday.

1st

#1 Catkins ($1.90

Popular five-year-old grey mare Catkins successfully defended her title in the Breeders Classic on February 7 but it was a narrow victory after she just put her nose down on the line to beat Lilliburlero. Even so, Catkins is a classy mare that shouldn’t be discounted in the Millie Fox Stakes. The mare has finished in the first three in all five of her past starts and has scored two third place runs at the highest level of racing (Group One). Catkins will once again have to overcome a wide start from barrier seven but she has shown time and time again that wide starts prove no issue to her.

2nd

#3 Avoid Lightning ($3.60)

Les Bridge’s six-year-old mare is the only runner resuming in the Millie Fox Stakes but has class and form on her side where she may be lacking in fitness. Avoid Lightning has placed in all six of her past starts, which includes running third in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) during the Brisbane Winter Carnival last June. The mare then went on to win the Group 3 Nivision (1200m), which was her lone spring run. Avoid Lightning will be running over 1300m for the first time but has a good record first-up (three from seven) and will enjoy an inside jump from barrier two with Tim Clark to ride.

3rd

#7 Mardi ($12)

Gai Waterhouse’s Mardi is offering lucrative odds of $12 to win or $2.45 to place in the Millie Fox Stakes. Considering the four-year-old mare has finished in the first two in all six of her career starts, this bet has the potential to pay off well. The Millie Fox Stakes will be Mardi’s first test at black-type level of racing but she has proven very successful in Benchmark races this season. The mare will carry the minimum weight of 54kg and enjoy the inside jump from barrier one with Jim Cassidy to ride.
