David Hayes & Tom Dabernig’s Backstedt is the headliner of the field but will need to overcome a wide start from barrier 12 with Stephen Baster. The five-year-old gelding will have a quick back-up after finishing third in the Group 3 Carlyon Cup (1600m) last Saturday. It will be the gelding’s first time running at Kilmore but he has won four of his nine starts over a mile.

Both Backstedt and Wish Come True will carry the top weight of 58kg, with the latter enjoying a jump from barrier five with Luke Nolen to ride.

The Peter Moody-trained gelding has not been seen since November 1st when he ran fourth in the Group 3 Lexus Stakes (2500m), failing to earn himself a place in the field for the Group 1 Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m) three days later. The distance will pose as Wish Come True’s biggest test since the middle-distance runner has never raced below 1800m before.

Moody will also saddle Vatuvei in the Kilmore Cup, who will jump wide from barrier 11 with John Fahy to ride. The six-year-old gelding finished runner-up in the Listed Ramsden Stakes (3200m) in May last year before finishing third in the Stayers Cup (3200m) one month later. Vatuvei will make his return at Kilmore on Saturday after nearly eight months off the field.

Mick Price’s Mighty Like is the only other runner besides Backstedt and Wish Come True carrying more than the 54.5kg minimum weight. The five-year-old gelding will carry 55kg as he jumps from barrier four with Dale Smith, who partnered Lankan Rupee in his three preparation runs this past month.

Terry & Karina O’Sullivan are Happy As Hell after their four-year-old gelding scored the inside jump from barrier one with Craig Williams to ride.

Group 2 Australia Stakes (1200m) runner Audino has won two of his three starts over the mile and will enjoy an inside jump from barrier three with Nikita Beriman while Darren Weir’s Priority Road will try to make it three wins from his three last starts as he jumps from barrier eight.
