Maximum Capacity Field for 2015 Parramatta Cup

All 15 horses nominated for the Listed Parramatta Cup (1900m) were acceptors in the final field released on Wednesday, which means the race is not only at capacity there’s also two emergency runners.

The Parramatta Cup is one of four black-type races running at Rosehill this Saturday but the only one for potential stayers.

David Payne’s Honorius continues to lead the field, due to jump from barrier six. The five-year-old horse will carry the sole top weight of 59kg, which is one kilogram less than he was allocated at Rosehill first-up on February 7. Despite being just four lengths from the leaders with 500m to go, Honorius didn’t come on and finished six and a half lengths behind winner Burbero in 10th place.

The five-year-old horse hasn’t won a race since the Group 3 Craven Plate (2000m) in October 13 and has only placed in one of his subsequent nine runs.

His last-start rival Burbero will also race in the 2015 Parramatta Cup and start the next gate in from Honorius.

The Bjorn Baker-trained six-year-old gelding is in top form, finishing first two in all five of his past starts, and will race at black-type level for the first time on Saturday.

Burbero finished runner-up to Red Excitement in the Drummond Golf Handicap (1400m) back in December, and the winner has since gone on to win the Listed Chester Manifold Stakes (1400m) so his form line holds up.

Chris Waller is set to dominate the race field after accepting with all six of his nominated horses – Our Voodoo Prince, Permit, Secessio, Diametric, Black Jag, and Grand Marshal.

Seven-year-old gelding Our Voodoo Prince is set to jump from barrier nine with Jason Collett, Secessio will have to overcome an outside start from the widest gate, Diametric will enjoy a start from barrier three, Black Jag will jump from the next gate out and carry the minimum weight of 54kg, and Grand Marshal will jump from the second-widest gate.

Eight-year-old gelding Permit is Waller’s best chance at winning the 2015 Parramatta Cup after finishing runner-up in the Listed Australia Day Cup (2400m) at Randwick on January 24. Permit will enjoy the sought-after start from barrier two.

The Jason Coyle-trained Scream Machine will enjoy the inside jump from barrier one with Tim Clark to ride.
