Geegees Goldengirl Leads 2015 Tasmanian Oaks Field

The Listed Tasmanian Oaks (2100m) is the feature race running at Launceston this Sunday, attracting a strong field of local and interstate three-year-old fillies.

The Stuart Gandy-trained Geegees Goldengirl sits atop the race field and will enjoy a great start to the race from barrier two with Sigrid Carr to ride.

The three-year-old chestnut filly has finished in the first three in 11 of her 14 starts and has placed in all four of her past runs, including running second in the Listed Tasmanian Guineas (1600m), third in the Listed Hobart Guineas (2100m), and winning the Listed Strutt Stakes (2100m) on February 9th.

Gary White’s Tycoon Navigator will enjoy the inside jump from barrier one with Anthony Darmanin to ride while Tony McEvoy’s Monopole will have to overcome a wide start from the outside gate.

Tycoon Navigator remains without a win from her three career starts, finishing outside the placings in all three including the Strutt Stakes. Monopole has also not won her maiden from her four starts but did finish runner-up twice.

Flemington-based trainers David Hayes & Tom Dabernig are set to saddle two horses in the 2015 Tasmanian Oaks – Marocan Diva and Cashla Bay.

Marocan Diva won her maiden at Yarra Valley on December 29 after six failed attempts and has finished third in her two past starts. The filly will jump from barrier 11 with Chris Symons.

Cashla Bay has just two starts to her name but the lightly-raced filly won her maiden on debut one month ago.

John Blacker’s Shayana has finished in the first two in four of her past five starts, including finishing runner-up to Geegees Goldengirl in the Strutt Stakes last time out, just a head off the winner.

Other Tasmanian Oaks runners include Thousand Guineas (1600m) winner Ryan’s Daughter and Hyperbole, who will enjoy a start from barrier three.
