More Mature Paceman on Show in 2015 Silver Slipper

Co-trainer Peter Snowden has declared the stable’s Golden Slipper-bound youngster Paceman as a more mature racehorse ahead of his return in Saturday’s Silver Slipper Stakes 2015 at Rosehill Gardens.

A field of top two-year-olds heading towards the $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) back at the track on March 21 face off in the $250,000 Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) on the weekend, including Snowden’s Duporth colt Paceman.

The Silver Slipper Stakes will feature a “slick” field according to Snowden, Godolphin’s former number one trainer now in partnership with his son Paul.

Indeed, the top two in futures Golden Slipper odds at are confirmed for the showdown.

John O’Shea, Godolphin’s new private trainer, saddles-up Ottoman first-up while Gai Waterhouse will run her Canonbury Stakes winning colt Vancouver – the duo installed as $7 equal favourites to win the Group 1 next month.

Other headline Silver Slipper Stakes hopefuls include Headwater prepared by Team Hawkes who won last year’s Golden Slipper was smart filly Mossfun and Paceman.

A $13 chance through in their early Golden Slipper odds, Paceman has had just the one official start.

On the back of a winning Randwick trial that he blitzed by seven lengths late last October, the up-and-comer debuted at Rosehill in mid-November.

He ran in the Cellarbrations Appin Plate (1100m) and had a length to spare over the Waterhouse-trained Right Of Way on the line.

Three months in the paddock followed that successful Sydney debut for Paceman who was back on trial at Warwick Farm on February 9.

He caught the eye again that day without winning, finishing only a quarter length away second behind Sebring Sun who won over the 803m in 47.50 seconds.

All is going to plan then ahead of the Silver Slipper Stakes, Snowden confident Paceman is putting it all together now and can hopefully give a hot field a run for their money when stepped up to black type company.

“He’s a lot more mature than when we saw at his first start,” Snowden said on TVN this morning.

“He’s really starting to put it altogether now. He’s just grown up a lot in the head and he had to.”

The 2015 Silver Slipper Stakes nominations are due out shortly followed by the release of the final field on Wednesday morning.
