2015 CS Hayes Stakes Nominations Feature Lucky Liberty

A host of Australian Guineas-bound three-year-olds make up the bumper list of CS Hayes Stakes 2015 nominations taken for the Flemington showdown this Saturday including second favourite for the Group 1, Lucky Liberty.

One of the key support races on the Black Caviar Lightning Stakes Day program in Melbourne on the weekend, this year’s $150,000 Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) drew a massive 24 early entries.

The set weights plus penalties clash is a traditional lead-up to one of the major Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival races, the $500,000 Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) back at the track this year on March 7.

Futures Australian Guineas odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are led by the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Caulfield Guineas winner Shooting To Win ($7) who resumes racing this weekend in Sydney’s Group 2 Hobartville Stakes.

Following closely in the all-in Australian Guineas betting markets at $9 is then Lucky Liberty, Henry Dwyer’s Statue Of Liberty gelding looking to retain an undefeated status here in the CS Hayes.

Stepping up to black type company for the first time, Lucky Liberty has won all three of his starts to date most recently over 1420m at Flemington in a Benchmark 78 on January 31.

It is a class rise for him then on the weekend but if he is to live up to the short early price being offered on him to win the Australian Guineas he’s going to have to handle it.

The next best fancied CS Hayes Stakes nominee in the Australian Guineas markets is then the Wez Hunter-trained Disposition ($15).

The Reset gelding boasts a solid record of four wins and two seconds from six starts to date but all have been back home in Perth.

He’s making the trip east then for some real racing rivals in Melbourne where his true skill will be put to the test, the Group 2 WA Guineas runner-up over the mile last seen running second to Chris Waller’s Sydney visitor Moriarty in the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) at Ascot on December 6.

Disposition has also won his only previous start over 1400m in the Listed Fairetha Stakes over Rommel so first-up the distance should be a non-issue.

Darren Weir also saddles-up an exciting Australian Guineas prospect in the race with Stratum Star also at $15 to win the Group 1 next month.

A three-year-old Startum colt, the nicely-bred Stratum Star enjoyed a strong spring season that concluded with a second to Petrology in the Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m) in mid-November before an eye catching first-up second over 1300m behind Profit Share at Sandown on February 7.

Other notable Australian Guineas entries nominated for the CS Hayes include the Mark Kavanagh-trained Caulfield Guineas fifth placed Street Cry colt Chivalry who ran fourth to Profit Share in his resuming run this month, Godolphin’s entry Hauraki who has won two from three so far, the promising Chris Waller-trained Group 3 winner of the Flemington mile Kermadec coming off a first-up fourth to Scissor Kick in the Eskimo Prince Stakes, Peter Moody’s Group 2 Autumn Staeks winner from last Saturday San Nicaso and the Gai Waterhouse-trained Group 1 Caulfield Guineas third placed Snitzel colt Wandjina last seen running just three and a half lengths away 10th to Adelaide in the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) in October.
