Trainer Mark Riley is very confident in Of The Brave’s chances in Saturday’s Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) for colts and geldings at Caulfield on Saturday, declaring the two-year-old colt as “potentially the best horse” he’s trained.
Of The Brave is one of 15 juveniles set to contest tomorrow’s Prelude on the way to the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) in a fortnight. He will jump from barrier ten with Stephen Baster as jockey and is currently the $3.50 favourite at Ladbrokes.com.au.
Riley believes that if any of Of The Brave’s 14 rivals beat him on Saturday, they will go on to win the $1 million Blue Diamond – that’s how highly he rates his own runner.
“If anything beats him on Saturday it will win the Diamond,” Riley declared to TVN.
“The horse is flying, absolutely flying.”
Of The Brave has had just one start, which he won back in October. The colt made his debut in the Listed Inglis Debutant Stakes (1000m), toughing it out and drawing clear in the final stages to win one and three-quarter lengths clear of runner-up Miss Idyllic.
The two-year-old colt got his first official trial of the year at Cranbourne on January 29, exploding away in the final 100 metres for a huge win. It was a very impressive trial for Of The Brave, who is the highest rated male runner in the Blue Diamond futures betting at Ladbrokes.com.au.
Of The Brave is an equal $11 chance alongside Flamboyant Lass and Lake Geneva while Fontiton sits at the top on $4.40, followed by Secret Agenda ($4.80) and Heatherly ($9).
“He’s just an unbelievable horse, I think potentially he’s the best I’ve trained,” Riley continued.
“He will just bounce from the gates, come across nice and easy and I think be too good for them.”
If you’re as confident in Of The Brave’s chances as Riley, back the colt at Ladbrokes.com.au today. New customers will receive a $250 bonus match on their first bet.
