2015 Light Fingers Stakes Betting Tips

While Group One racing returns to Melbourne on Saturday in the form of the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m), it could be argued that Sydney will play host to much more exciting races.

The likes of Lucia Valentina, Contributer, and He’s Your Man are resuming in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) while 11 classy three-year-old fillies will contest the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m), including Mossfun, Amicus, and First Seal.

Five of those 11 are offering single figure odds in the Light Fingers Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au, led by First Seal.

The John Thompson-trained filly will enjoy the inside jump barrier one as she resumes on Saturday, looking to add to her spring success that saw her strongly win both the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) before finishing runner-up in the Group 1 Champion Stakes (2000m).

First Seal has never won over 1200 metres however and seems much better suited to distances over 1400 metres. Will the filly justify her odds and win the 2015 Light Fingers Stakes? Check out our betting tips for the race below.

#8 Onemorezeta ($8.50

The Kris Lees-trained filly has seen a lot of support from punters since the Light Fingers Stakes betting opened earlier this week, with the market mover’s price shortening from $11 to her current price of $8.50. Onemorezeta is a lucrative betting option that could easily pay off. The filly hasn’t run over 1200 metres yet but easily won races over both 1000m and 1100m during the spring and easily won a trial on February 2 over 900 metres. Onemorezeta will jump midfield from barrier six with Christian Reith to ride.

#6 Winx ($6)

Chris Waller’s filly missed out to First Seal twice during the autumn but could prove victorious over her rival in the Light Fingers Stakes. Winx has finished in the first two in all five of her career starts and has plenty of track experience at Caulfield. The filly has also won over 1200 metres at the track, easily taking out the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) by nearly three lengths in the spring. Winx will enjoy a jump from barrier three with Jason Collett to ride.

#1 Mossfun ($4)

The Light Fingers Stakes marks the return on Mossfun, who hasn’t been seen on the track in ten months. The Team Hawkes-trained filly won four of her five starts last autumn, including the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m). A spring campaign was called off for Mossfun after she was struck down with a virus in August, which explains the long absence. She has the most experience over the trip with one win and one placing and has proven successful from wide gates so shouldn’t have an issue jumping from barrier seven. However she may need a couple of runs to get back into the swing of it all.
