Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
The David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained mare Girl Guide is clear favourite to win the last on CF Orr Stakes Day in Melbourne this Saturday sitting top of the Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes 2015 odds.
The mares-only $150,000 Group 3 Routleys Bakery Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) closes a top day’s racing at Caulfield Racecourse running as Race 9 at 6:25pm (AEDT) and features a final field of 12 hopefuls.
Favourite of those in the latest Ladbrokes.com.au markets at a quote of $3.30 is Churchill Downs five-year-old Girl Guide drawn well in barrier three with champion hoop Craig Williams to ride.
Williams was aboard Girl Guide for her last start, a sixth to Bonaria when beaten under two lengths in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington back on November 1.
Before that she won back-to-back 1200m races against her own kind including the Group 3 How Now Stakes (1200m), fished second in another Group 3 at Caulfield in October and then was runner-up to subsequent Myer Classic runner-up Sweet Idea in the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) on Caulfield Cup Day.
Undefeated first-up, Girl Guide shoots for a third win when resuming at a distance she’s won three of her five starts at as well as running a second and third over 1200m too.
Following Girl Guide in the Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes odds are then four other single figure hopes with:
- #3 Politeness ($6) – Robert Smerdon’s Street Sense four-year-old ran seventh in a blanket finish for the Myer Classic before going to Sandown on November 15 for a win in the Group 3 Summoned Stakes over 1500m. She’s won two from three over 1200m, trialled well when third to Fontein Ruby over 990m at Cranbourne on January 29 but is after her first Caulfield win at her fifth start at the track.
- #10 Tycoon Tara ($7) – In-form Written Tycoon four-year-old prepared at Warrnambool by Symon Wilde, she boasts three wins, two seconds and a third from eight starts. Latest of those victories was over 1300m at Sandown on December 6 before her second to Magnus Reign over 1200m down the Flemington straight late last month. In her Caulfield debut here and faces her first class field so it’s an acid test.
- #2 Solicit ($8) – Mathew Ellerton & Simon Zahra’s Street Cry mare ran fourth in the Myer Classic before a fifth over 2000m on Emirates Stakes Day to round out last prep. She’s back here at a distance she’s won her only other start over, and she has a solid first-up record of two wins from four attempts so should be going well fresh.
- #Scarlet Billows ($8.50) – Gun barrier two draw for Darren Weir’s Street Boss four-year-old who has won four form 10, all four of those wins being over Saturday’s 1200m distance. Her latest win was in a Benchmark 90 on January 24 at Moonee Valley where she handled the tight circuit proving she wasn’t just a Flemington runner.
Outside those under $10 to win are then a host of double figure chances not without their claims in the race including the returning Myer Classic winner Bonaria ($11), Group 3 winner Griante ($12) for David Brideoake and the Peter Moody-trained Statue Of Liberty four-year-old Spirts Dance ($15) with the outside barrier for jockey Chad Schofield.
