Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude 2015 Betting Odds

Betting markets are heating up for the nine top races on the CF Orr Stakes Day line-up at Caulfield Racecourse this Saturday including those for the 2015 Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude.

Due to jump as Race 3 at 2:40pm (AEDT), this year’s $200,000 Group 2 Blue Diamond Prelude (Fillies) (1100m) features 14 two-year-old fillies including just one unraced hope in Dynasty Queen out wide in barrier 13 for her debut.

Drawn in barrier nine for jockey Mark Zahra is the Robert Smerdon-trained favourite Fontiton shooting for her third win from as many starts this weekend.

The daughter of Turffontein won the Inglis Banner by six lengths last October then returned on January 26 for a first-up victory in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Fillies Preview (1000m).

Up in distance and class on the weekend, Fontiton pays $2.60 in the current Blue Diamond Prelude (F) odds at and also leads their futures markets for the $1 million Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) back at the track on February 28.

Second pick in both markets paying $3.20 for Saturday is then the Mick Price-trained Secret Agenda who jumps from barrier four with Damien Oliver in the Prelude.

The Not A Single Doubt filly is a locally-trained Caulfield hope who won on debut defeating subsequent Blue Diamond Preview and Chairman’s Stakes runner-up Haybah over 1000m at Moonee Valley in December.

She races for the first time since here and should she win she’ll take over top spot in the Blue Diamond Stakes odds.

The only other single figure chance in the BD Fillies Prelude on the weekend tipped to take on the top two fancies is then Heatherly at a current quote of $8.

She is drawn in barrier six for jockey Damian Lane, the Mathew Ellerton & Simon Zahra-trained Lonhro filly another winner on debut over 1000m at Moonee Valley but her win was only last Friday night.

Saluting as the odds-on favourite, Heatherly beat home Reemah by one and three quarter lengths in the Fujitsu Plate and is on the short back-up going into the Prelude where she gets another chance to stake her Blue Diamond claims for the end of the month.

The next best in betting are then Flamboyant Lass ($10), Antelucan ($14) and Pursuits ($19) before the rest of the field goes out over $20 to win.

Gai Waterhouse’s Startum filly Flamboyant Lass is the Hall of Fame trainer’s best chance of winning her maiden Blue Diamond Stakes trophy and comes off a win over 1000m at Randwick from January 10.

Flamboyant Lass was impressive that day winning by over three lengths but now must handle the other way of racing when she runs in Melbourne for the first time from a wide barrier 10 draw with Glen Boss in the saddle.

Prepared by John O’Shea for racing powerhouse Godolphin, Doemsday filly Antelucan is first-up here after winning the Group 3 Emirates Airline Plate (1000m) back on Melbourne Cup Day last spring where she defeated subsequent Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes winner Thurlow.

O’Shea also saddles-up Pursuits, Craig Williams riding the daughter of Lonhro who ran a brave third just over two lengths off Fontiton in the Blue Diamond Fillies Preview late last month.
