Pride Of Dubai On Trial for Blue Diamond Stakes 2015

The Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Pride Of Dubai will be on trial for the $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) this Saturday at Caulfield, along with 15 other two-year-old colts and geldings, in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m).

However unlike many of the runners, Prince Of Duabi is not featured in the third acceptances for the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes on February 28, which means he’ll need to impress his connections with either a win or a good run for owner Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa al Maktoum to pay the $55,000 late entry fee.

Pride Of Dubai’s trainers dually accepted for both the Blue Diamond Prelude and the Listed Lonhro Plate (1100m) at Randwick on Saturday in case of a bad draw. However after drawing well in barrier seven for the Prelude, the colt was scratched from the Lonhro Plate on Wednesday afternoon even though he was set to jump from the inside gate.

“We’ll accept but if he draws 15 down there he’ll run in Sydney on Saturday,” Paul Snowden told Sky Racing prior to the Wednesday’s barrier draw.

“He’s got to perform to get to the Blue Diamond.

“If he goes down there and runs tenth then he won’t be going back down.”

Pride Of Dubai has just one start to his name, a minor placing in the Tab Place Multi Plate (1100m) on December 20. Despite racing a little greenly, it was a nice debut run, and he finished just one length behind Ottoman, who is the $7 favourite in the $3.5 million Golden Slipper futures betting at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Snowden believes his colt did the majority of the work in the race and will improve in the 2015 Blue Diamond Prelude on Saturday.

“They’re all saying the winner is a super horse,” Snowden said.

“Well this horse did all the work for the winner and it peeled off his back and got over the top of a green horse.

“I’m sure he’ll be somewhere around the mark wherever he runs on Saturday.”

Pride Of Dubai enjoyed a 1045 metre trial at Randwick on February, which he impressively won by one and a quarter lengths.

“He’s worked every day since that trial and he worked very good this morning,” Snowden said on Tuesday.
