Parcel in Top Form Ahead of 2015 Chairman’s Stakes

Wez Hunter’s Parcel was one of nine two-year-olds that featured in the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) final field on Wednesday.

This may have surprised some racing fans considering the filly was last seen rearing and dumping apprentice jockey Chris Parnham at Moonee Valley last Friday before running loose for roughly five minutes.

However renowned chiropractor Michael Bryant looked over Parcel earlier in the week, giving her the go ahead to continue her Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) preparation.

“Physically, there is nothing wrong with her. I gave her a gallop yesterday and she’s fine,” Hunter told TVN.

“She seems alright, we’ll push on. She was really going well into the Valley race, I thought she would go there and just win.

“Sandown is much harder, we’ll get a better idea of where we sit.”

Since Parcel was a late scratching at Moonee Valley last Friday, the filly will need win or run second in the Chairman’s Stakes to earn enough prize money to boost her place in the 2015 Blue Diamond order of entry, where she currently sits at No. 28.

However the 2015 Chairman’s Stakes will be a much tougher race to win considering there is a host of Blue Diamond contenders also looking to boost their order of entry, including Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) winner Prompt Return and Robert Smerdon’s Thurlow.

Parcel won her debut at Bendigo on December 21, winning a 2YO Maiden Plate over 900 metres three-quarters of a length in front of Jameka. In the process the filly erased Innovation Girl’s track record.

She is a $7 shot to win the Chairman’s Stakes at and a $51 shot in the Blue Diamond futures betting.

The Chairman’s Stakes will run at 3:15pm (AEDT) at Sandown Racecourse this Saturday. Parcel will need to overcome a start from the widest gate while Chris Parnham will return to the saddle after being reared last week.

If the filly is successful in the race, she’ll move onto the $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield in three weeks’ time.
