Stratum Star Tops 2015 Super Vobis 3YO Plate Field

More than half of the field is getting an early start on the autumn, resuming in the $80,000 Plate, including the likes of Stratum Star, Merion, and Chivalry, who all impressed during the spring.

Darren Weir’s Stratum Star headlines the final field, set to carry the top weight of 58.5kg along with Merion, and jump midfield from barrier six with Brad Rawiller to ride.

The colt finished in the first three in all seven of his starts during the spring carnival, highlighted by runner-up finishes in both the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) and Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m).

Weir is also set to saddle Profit Share in Saturday’s race, with the gelding set to jump from the ideal second barrier with Michelle Payne serving as hoop. Profit Share is one of five horses that enjoyed a summer campaign and he was last seen on January 24, running second to Hong Kong Captain in the Vobis Gold Star (1500m) at Moonee Valley.

Michael Moroney’s Merion is a lightly-raced gelding with just six career starts to his name – three of which he won. Merion earned a spot in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) during the spring, finishing a commendable sixth behind Shooting To Win. He will jump from barrier eight with Steven Arnold to ride.

Chivalry also ran in the Caulfield Guineas last October and finished one better than Merion despite having to overcome a wide start from gate 12. Mark Kavanagh’s three-year-old will jump from barrier nine with Damian Lane in the saddle.

Godolphin will have a stronger hold over the Super Vobis 3YO Plate after trainer John O’Shea accepted with both Hauraki and Gouldian.

Hauraki won his two minor starts during the spring and will jump from barrier five with Chad Schofield as hoop while Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) runner Gouldian will take a massive step back in distance as he jumps from barrier seven with Craig Williams.

Other confirmed runners include Listed Hilton Hotels & Resorts Stakes (1400m) runner-up Orient Line, Team HawkesOnerous, and Mick Price’s Samartested, who will enjoy the rails run from barrier one.
