Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Momentum is building towards the autumn carnival with two group races running at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse on Saturday.
The Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m) is the feature race, for which 14 sprinters were nominated on Monday morning.
Leading the charge is defending champion Catkins, who won last year’s race just a short-head from Steps In Time. She then went on to win a further three black-type races as well as place in four, including the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) and Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) last time out on November 1.
The five-year-old mare is one of three mares nominated for the 2015 Breeders Classic by Chris Waller, along with Calming Influence and Arinosa.
“The conditions of the race are ideal for her,” Waller told Sky Racing.
“She is probably a bit more forward than Arinosa and is a class mare.”
Waller believes the set weights and penalties of the Breeders Classic are ideal for Catkins, who will carry 57kg in this year’s race – just one and a half kilo more than she won with last time.
Seven-year-old grey mare Arinosa has not had a win since the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) in October 2013 but after a long spell that saw her miss the entire spring carnival is ready to return to the winner’s circle.
Calming Influence returned from a spell of seven months in the summer after finishing end of the field in her two autumn runs. The mare stepped down in class, finding success in Benchmark 90 races over 1400 metres.
David Payne’s Lilliburlero is another highly rated nominated mare, who won the Group 3 Triscay Stakes (1200m) last February before scoring a minor placing in the Group 3 GH Mumm Stakes (1100m) during the spring.
The mare charged home in the Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) last time out, making up many lengths after going all the way back to finish commendably in fifth place.
The Joseph Pride-trained Chintz is set to resume in the Breeders Classic after finishing outside the placings in all three of her Group Three spring starts as well as Kris Lees’ Hera, which won a Rosehill Handicap over 1350 metres last time out.
John Sargent’s Neena Rock had a solid spring that included a minor placing in the Group 3 Golden Pendant (1400m) as well as winning the Group 3 Angst Stakes (1600m).
