2015 Widden Stakes Betting Tips

Ten two-year-old fillies will line-up at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse on Saturday in a bid to win the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m).

Gai Waterhouse’s Giulietta is the firm favourite in the Widden Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au at $3.60. The filly is one of just two last start winners along with stable mate Pierrette ($15) after winning her maiden at Rosehill on January 3.

Is this enough to justify Giulietta’s favouritism or will a surprising filly score her first win ahead of the autumn carnival.

1st

#5 Tempt Me Not ($8)

The track at Rosehill will be rain-affected on Saturday following downpour throughout the week and Tempt Me Not is the only runner who has been tested over soft tracks. The Bart & James Cummings-trained filly did well to finish runner-up in the Victory Vein Plate (1000m) back in October at a soft Randwick track. Tempt Me Not was blocked for a run in the straight and was badly held up in the concluding stages in the race she ideally should have won. Also displayed a nice turn of foot at a trial last week, her first time out in three months.

2nd

#1 Giulietta ($3.60)

Gai Waterhouse’s best chance at success is this talented filly that won her debut at Rosehill on January 3 by two and a half lengths. Giulietta got brilliantly away and led clearly in the early stages before steadying the tempo and travelling well in front. She then dashed clear on passing the 300 metre mark and went on to score decisively with plenty in hand. Is an early 2015 Golden Slipper favourite and will jump well from barrier three with Christian Reith to ride.

3rd

#6 Fireworks ($4.80)

Gerald Ryan’s filly is a good bet to round out your trifectas after finishing in the first three in her two career starts. Fireworks was a close second in her debut run at Gosford Racecourse on December 29 before finishing third in the Hyland Race Colours Plate (1100m) on January 17. The filly should be commended on turning the race around for herself after stumbling out the gates, finding herself eight lengths from the leader with 600 metres to go. She went to the outside and flashed home for third race in a brilliant finish.
