After a washout last weekend a field of 12 female gallopers are rescheduled to run in the Nudgee Fillies & Mares Handicap 2015 at Doomben Racecourse in Brisbane this Saturday, betting tips for the summer showdown detailed below.
Leading the early Ladbrokes.com.au markets for the $100,000 Listed Evergreen Turf Fillies and Mares Handicap (1200m), due to jump as Race 8 at 4:05pm (QLD time), at a firming $3.60 is the Mick Mair-trained Queen Of The Lochs who opened at $6 earlier in the week.
Sunny skies and a firming course at Doomben have seen the punters gain more confidence and the money come in for the Bradbury’s Luck four-year-old who comes off a second over 1400m back home at the Sunshine Coast from January 17.
Five of her rivals are also under double figures to win including the widely-drawn Breakfast In Bed ($5) coming off a win at the Gold Coast from last month, the rails-drawn top weight Tukiyo ($7) carrying 59kg and Canberra visitor Caprossa ($7.50).
So will one of the dominant chances in betting take it out or is there more value to be found further down the Nudgee Fillies & Mares Handicap odds from the likes of Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap winner Endless Shadow ($9) or Little Brown Horse ($10) drawn well in barrier two.
#5 Endless Shadow ($9)
Will get things her way from barrier four with jockey Brad Stewart likely to take a sit on this in-form daughter of Dane Shadow, the six-year-old boasting plenty of pace to run on late strong after a patient ride into the finish. She comes off a Magic Millions win in similar grade over 1300m from earlier this month and handles Soft (5-2-1-0) and Heavy (5-0-3-2) tracks.
#4 Queen Of The Lochs ($3.60)
Money coming hard and fast for the Sunshine Coast-based mare who has run second in her two lead-up runs over 1350m and 1400m respectively. Her last start over 1200m though produced a win at the track last October and her overall record over the distance is very good (6-2-3-0). Also at Doomben she’s always running well (8-2-2-2) and her honesty could make her hard to run down with the right run from barrier three from jockey Tegan Harrison won continues her association here.
#2 Little Brown Horse ($10)
Plenty to like about the Kelly Doughty-trained Little Brown Horse despite the six-year-old going up from 54kg last start to 58.5kg on Saturday. Apprentice Geoffrey Goold stays on despite not being able to claim after the two combined for a fifth to Gundy Son in the Listed Goldmarket Handicap (1300m) at the Gold Coast earlier this month. She’s a 42 start veteran with two previous wins and the track & distance and handles all going including Heavy (4-2-0-1).
