Expressway Stakes No Sure Thing for That’s A Good Idea

Securing several impressive results over the short 2015 racing calendar so-far, co-trainer Paul Snowden has revealed That’s A Good Idea will not take his place in Saturday’s featured Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill should a wet track be confirmed.

Claiming seven wins and eight minor places from his 25 competitive appearances on course so far, That’s A Good Idea placed a close second to Ball Of Muscle in the Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) on January 9th; again finishing just off the pace of Ninth Legion when second in the Listed Carrington Stakes (1400m) last weekend.

Understandably pleased with the early results posted by the Flying Spur gelding this time in, Snowden told Racing Ahead he does not perform well on surfaces with even a hint of rain, and will need to find a dry track to take his place in the 2015 Expressway Stakes.

“Unfortunately with this guy they need to be bone-dry tracks for him otherwise he’s pretty much useless,” Snowden said.

“His fate’s going to be determined over the next couple of days as to how much it dries out.

“Hopefully he’s meeting a lot of horses first-up with targets later on through their campaigns so it’s always helpful when you’re tackling those horses first-up.

“He’s a quality animal but obviously we’re in the lap of the gods with the weather.”

Steadily building to the task over his maiden racing preparation in 2012, That’s A Good Idea arguably found career-best form to date over the 2014 racing calendar; highlighted by victory in the 4tracks4kids Handicap (1000m) and minor place finishes in each of the Group 3 Untameable Stakes (1100m) and Listed Lightning (1100m); the latter a less-than two lengths second place finish to Deep Field.

That’s A Good Idea began his career under the guidance of trainer Mark de Montfort; passing through the care of Joe Pride before arriving at the Snowden’s stables prior to his spring racing return in 2014.

Leading online bookie is currently offering the best early odds on the 2015 Expressway Stakes, for which That’s A Good Idea can be taken at a generous quote of $7.50 for success.
