Hallowed Crown Restricted to Sydney for 2015 Autumn Carnival

Three-year-old colt Hallowed Crown will once again be kept to Sydney for his upcoming campaign, which means Melbourne racing fans will miss out on seeing the boom galloper in the flesh once again.

Hollowed Crown nearly made the journey south back in the spring for the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on November 1 but trainers Bart & James Cummings decided against it after the colt ran fourth in the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick Racecourse on October 4.

The colt enjoyed unbridled success as a two and three year old, winning four of his five career starts all of which were run in Sydney. He took out the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) last autumn before returning in the spring following a four month spell to win the Group 3 Run To The Rose on his way to the main event – the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m).

His unbeaten run ended in the Roman Consul Stakes, finishing two and a half lengths behind winner Brazen Beau in the small six-horse field.

Hallowed Crown was subsequently sent to the spelling paddock but could resume in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) on February 14 in three weeks’ time.

Speaking to RSN’s Racing Ahead on Tuesday morning, James Cummings was hesitant to confirm a solid autumn campaign for the colt but did clarify he would only be targeting Sydney races.

The Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) is the main target for Hallowed Crown, who enjoyed an exhibition gallop between races at Randwick on Saturday.

“He’s just been coming to hand really nicely for us,” Cummings said.

“He’s a beautiful horse and it was nice to see him out there and he looked particularly good as he ranged up alongside The Peak who’s a really nice Saturday class sprinter.

“I’d really like to have him second-up into the Randwick Guineas, so if he could run in a 7-furlong (1400m) race first up that’d be ideal, and there’s a couple of them coming up in the next few weeks.”
