Hallowed Crown Expected to Resume in 2015 Apollo Stakes

Group One winner Hallowed Crown enjoyed an exhibition gallop at Royal Randwick Racecourse on Saturday, a sharp display that saw the three-year-old colt cruise to the line and finish his final 800 metres in 47.65 seconds.

The Bart and James Cummings-trained colt was one of five top horses that enjoyed a gallop between races on Saturday, getting a bit of work and showing off to punters ahead of their return in the autumn.

Hallowed Crown is due to resume in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on February 14, according to Darley representative Jason Walsh.

The breeding operation purchased a share in the three-year-old following his successful spring campaign that included netting the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m).

Hallowed Crown has won four of his five career starts. The colt made his debut last autumn, winning his maiden over 1150 metres at Kensington on March 26 before going on to score the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m).

After four months in the spelling paddock, the colt won the Group 3 Run To The Rose (1200m) at the end of August on his way to the $1 million main event two weeks later.

His last start for the season was in the Group 2 Roman Consul (1200m) on October 4. Hallowed Crown missed the start and found himself in a bad spot. He didn’t get much room and was flat on the line, finishing two and a half lengths off winner Brazen Beau in fourth place.

The colt was subsequently spelled following his first loss but could resume in as little as three weeks’ time in the 2015 Apollo Stakes.

“Obviously there is still some discussions to be made but the horse is likely to have a trial and the Apollo seems a good fit,” Walsh told TVN.

“His best form is second-up, he won the Golden Rose second-up and that is where he would be ideally peaking for the Randwick Guineas.

“The Hobartville Stakes would only give us two weeks before the Randwick Guineas and the feeling is that he would be better with three weeks between runs.”
