Shining Knight Heads 2015 Miss Andretti Stakes Odds

The Listed Miss Andretti Stakes (1200m) is the feature race running at Ascot Racecourse in Perth on Saturday, attracting 12 talented local sprinters.

Of those twelve, four are offering single figure odds in the betting market at with Shining Knight ($3.20) and Cool Trade ($3.60) contesting the top spot.

The Grant Williams-trained Shining Knight will carry the top weight of 59kg as he jumps from barrier eight with William Pike as jockey.

The six-year-old gelding enjoyed a minor placing in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) in November and has gone on to finish in the first two in three of his four next starts, all of which he carried 59kg in.

This is his widest start since the Winterbottom Stakes but is better suited at this distance than the 1000m he’s been run at lately. Except him to take a wide run and go close on the line.

Alan Mathews’ Cool Trade will carry three and a half kilograms less than Shining Knight as she jumps two gates in from barrier six.

The four-year-old mare is a last start winner of the Listed Scenic Blast Stakes (1100m), finally breaking through after placings in her three previous starts. Cool Trade has placed in eight of her ten starts at Ascot Racecourse and five of her six starts over the distance.

Other single figure hopefuls include Dawn Approach ($8) and Stagnite ($8.50).

The Vaughn Sigley-trained Dawn Approach will enjoy a start from barrier two with Takahide Ikenushi to ride while Sharon Miller’s Stagnite will have to overcome a jump from the widest gate.

Dawn Approach has won his past two starts, one of which was over the same track and distance as the 2015 Miss Andretti Stakes but is backing up for his third run in just a couple of weeks, which could be a challenge.

Stagnite finished in the first three in his four Benchmark 72 starts but just missed out on a placing when stepped up in class last time out in the Group 3 Northerly Stakes (1400m). This was back in October, which means the gelding missed the majority of the summer carnival in Perth. This exciting horse is likely to find the competition too slick first up, considering he has to make up ground from the wide jump.
